Thanks Cal. It works like a charm. Now all I have to do is write a macro to
create the QIF file.

I'd thought of creating a Buy transaction with a quantity of 0, but hadn't
thought of using a Watch Account.

You could try doing a buy of 0 shares, and import that into a watch
account. Let us know if that works for you.

Next question. Can I create a QIF file which, when imported, does nothing but
update prices? I tried a file with Date, Security, and Price, which failed,
and then with a few guesses at Action, all of which failed.

Also note that even though the Money Plus Deluxe will update your Canadian
data file, it will lose all the Canadian features such as spelling, Canadian
tax calculations, etc. Agree with Cal that you're probably better off
sticking with your existing version.

The better answer for Canada for now is to keep using Money 2006, if
you can do without the downloaded quotes.

Money Plus should work for you, but yet it is not sold in Canada.
Money Plus Essentials (which will not do the job for you) is. It's a
strange situation. :-(

You could download the Money Plus Deluxe trial, even in the face of
the warning you can read during the process, but after two months
that will need to be upgraded to the real thing.

Some have successfully given a US address to enable the download,
but that can come up as a problem when the address given mis-matches
the address on the credit card. Also, what if there is a mail-in
rebate?

The pragmatic answer is that if you had a US friend ....

I wish there were a more elegant answer.

What if you're not in the US? Is there still a Canadian version? If so, how
do I upgrade to the Plus Deluxe version?

The key point is - and I did not keep the box to check it now - was this
information available to me on the outside of the box so that I could've
known it **before I purchased the software**?

It turns out that I was in error. The
File-> Import-> DownloadedStatements is *not* being turned off with
the online services expiration. My mistake.

After expiration Money will not fetch direct OFX statements or
statements that come in via a third party. But the ability to go to
the FI's website and get OFX or QIF statements is not being stopped.

Thanks for the info Bob. The DRP is all I am concerned about, I've never
used any of those other features you mentioned. Thanks again.

Yes DRP will still work, but you will not be able to download updates to

Well, why didn't Microsoft just come out and say that very significant
Money 2006 features will (in effect) expire 1 September 2008 and that
an upgrade (2008) will be required. I got a message from Microsoft
past week which did not make it very clear what was about to happen if
you did not upgrade. Other software companies make it very clear.
Who the heck remembers what an install notice said several years
ago?

It was there. If you have the boxed software, see the terms and
conditions (with reading glasses, if you use them).

During install there was a notice if I remember correctly.

In Help-> About, see LicenseTerms and OnlineServicesPolicy.

This expiration thing started with Money 2003.

In other words Money 2006 will no longer work (at least for my
purposes). Why didn't Microsoft come right out and say all this very

be fed to Microsoft Money 2006 portfolio.

Be be more specific, will I still see my stock portfolio and the
prices and news, etc., throughout the day? If not then Money 2006
will be useless for me.

You will not be denied access to your file. You will be able to
enter data (transactions, price quotes, etc) by keyboard and be able
to read all of your data.

What you will not be able to do is

1. to download statements (even from QIF or OFX web downloads) from
your financial institutions

2. download price quotes.

If you are in the US, you will still be able to upgrade to Money
Plus to be able to do those things again for another two years.

Default Money 2006 Warnings

Have been getting warnings (from Microsoft) that I should upgrade
Money 2006 by 1 September 2006. If I do nothing will there be dire
consequences? I.e., will I be denied access? The upgrade warning is
not at all clear about this.
