Did you let Money 2005 update to the 1105 version:

Method 5 of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320193/en-us

What are you trying to restore from? Is it a backup (.MBF) file or a Money
data (.MNY) file? If the latter, don't Restore, just Open.

For M05 particularly, try opening the Money Sample data file and then doing
an Internet Update to get the he patches for M05. You would have lost these
on the reinstall.

Many other possibilities. Let's work off these first.

how did you transfer your *.mny file? If you used a CD or DVD your file
becomes read only. You have to manually go into to Windows Explorer and
change it back to read/write.
