Method 1 worked, I signed in without Passport, did the change as knows) the sign-in added back the Passport default a few days later, but I fixed it again and it's all good now. - quote - > You are not going to be able to assume that, unfortunately. The US-based friend work-around is available to me - but that doesn't help replaces it on me - oops, just dropped it. Darn. |

| Thanks for the answers. The first part (having the file locked with Passport without access) is ok, the KB article sent by MS to advise of Passport ending did do it for me, I have removed the Passport password successfully. So no issues there. The FAQ is right under 'Free Trial' on the Money home page, and the actual quote is at http://www.microsoft.com/money/freetrial_deluxe.mspx#2. So (apart from the cave option, which I think I'll leave for last if at all possible) I believe I have 2 paths left: 1. Keep it as is, update quotes manually (is there another back-door way?) 2. Upgrade O/S, get Money+ (assuming MS will magnamously allow non-US customers to do so). Of course O/S upgrade = hardware upgrade, but that's another conversation altogether. It might be worse than that if you actually still have a Passport on> 2003 Canadian edition cannot import stock quotes anymore. your file, and you are now having to "sign/log in offline". If that is the case, at this point the only solution I know of to work with a different version is to do QIF export and import. :-( As far as I can tell, there is no way to upgrade that file or to remove the need to sign-in offline. Now if you are not having to sign in offline, then there is further potential, so read on. - quote - > Everything else

What is the URL of that FAQ? I don't think that quote is quite> "Users with the Canadian version will not be able to open previous versions > of Money if they download this U.S. trial". accurate. I think that the real problem for a Canadian user running XP or Vista is that you would have to buy Money Plus in the US. Even the download (soon to be the only way to buy) asks for a US address. - quote - > 5. Give all my assets to charity and find a suitable cave.
I think users have posted that installing Money Plus on Win2k did> Anything missing in the list, or that needs correcting? Anyone tried Plus on > Win2k? not work for them. Unfortunately, I am afraid your analysis seems correct. |

| So finally Passport access has died for old versions, so my venerable MSMoney 2003 Canadian edition cannot import stock quotes anymore. Everything else works - I generate bank statements from my bank web site, and that loads fine, no need for Passport sing-in for that. So am I correct to see that my options now are: 1. Live with it, update stock quotes manually (a pain, but free) 2. Find some sort of hack that allows to move stock quotes into Money automatically or semi-automatically (not seen anything like that yet) 3. Follow the recommendations of MS Canada web site, upgrade to 2006 (!) Cdn version, and hope its access timeout is not already passed or about to be... 4. Follow the recommendations of MS US web site, upgrade to 2008 (aka Plus) - but my O/S (Win2k Pro SP4) is not on the min reqs list, so I need either an O/S upgrade or a new laptop or an act of faith that 2008 *will* run on Win2k - testing with the trial version is not an option, the FAQ clearly states "Users with the Canadian version will not be able to open previous versions of Money if they download this U.S. trial". 5. Give all my assets to charity and find a suitable cave. Anything missing in the list, or that needs correcting? Anyone tried Plus on Win2k? |
