| Ah! Zeroing the total and leaving the price field blank works. In my case, it is a Mutual Fund and I AM using Transaction Forms. Thank you both! |

One thing I have heard commented on is that a fee on a particular security in a taxable account, such as an ADR/ADS fee, should be added to the basis. Money does not have a straight-forward way to do that. |

| Is the investment Type a Bond? (A guess; this is more or less what I tried with a Mutual Fund type and it worked exactly as I expected.) I just revisited this. When I set $25 in the total and then tab to the commission and put $25 there, it changes the total to $0. I do not use Transaction Forms. When I used 1.112 shares for a commission of $25 and a total of $0, it correctly calculated the price at $22.482014. So, my earlier advice to use a total of $25 and a commission of $25 was whacked as I hadn't noticed it zeroed out my Total to keep the equation in balance after I entered the $25 commission. FWIW, I do real Sells and enter the fees in the cash account as Miscellaneous : Service Charges / Fees. Chris' method of using commission is also valid. I suspect you are entering a Price. In Money, it is generally best> I'm trying to enter 401k fees as described by Chris Cowels here: > http://groups.google.com/group/micro...e8298aa08ae415 > I get a message saying "The commission you've entered is larger than > the total amount of the investment transaction..." > and it will not let me save the transaction. What am I doing wrong? to let Money compute the price. If you want to do that technique, enter Commission, Total, and Quantity. Let Money compute price. This method lets you enter just one transaction. If you are willing to enter two or more transactions, you can enter a Sell and then either an OtherExpense transaction into the investment transactions register, or a Payment into the cash transactions register. The OtherExpense will count the expense as a loss of performance of the particular investment. If you have more than one investment, you could allocate the expense by using more than one OtherExpense transactions. |

| Without your specifying any detail of the transaction you are trying to enter, it's hard to say. I think Chris' thinking ran along these lines. Say they sell 1.045 shares for $25 of fees. Enter a Sell activity Investment Transaction in the Investment Account for 1.045 shares, $25 total value, $25 commission. You can specify a transfer account, but it would just put in a $0 transfer so why bother. I just test this here and it worked fine.
