| Support always replies. So, if you never got a reply, that likely means your junk email filters are not allowing you to see those messages. This may also point to this Money update problem being tied to security software on your system being too restrictive. -Mark "caowens" <caowens[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:B0AC730C-B55D-4ACE-A063-6801CF727BF0[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > At least you got a reply. | At least you got a reply. I have gone to Money support and submitted 3 requests for help, never get a reponse. I only get a survey email asking me to rate the service. Everytime I give a poor rating and it asks if I would mind be contacted about my survey. I write sure, I would even like someone to even respond to my initial email about the problem. Help & Support is useless, chat is always not available - even during their supposed hours of operation, they are always closed. So I came to Discussion hoping to find a solution, but find still no answer anywhere. I have tried all suggestions that I have found and nothing works. Absolutely ridiculous, I have used a Microsoft Money program since 1997, first time I have ever had a problem. But considering this lack of support, I am seriously looking into some other program. | None of this helps. Support gives up allways - see below - Almost impossible to fix this software! I had same problem Ver. is ..1415 but in Vista or XP it will eventually get hosed and wants to update constantly. Too bad no competent support exists. Format - re-install everything. Wait 2 months - Its back! Hi CustomerName, This is Christian Hinojosa with Microsoft Money Technical Support. It was a real pleasure to work with you on the issue with Microsoft Money today unfortunately we were not able to establish a resolution. What happens when Money is not able to run the software update in the original Admin User Profile is that the security settings are too strict or set too high. This can either be the default Firewall security settings on the computer or the third party antivirus software, we are not completely sure what is blocking the software update from completing. Although Money can sometimes be installed with the changed settings, there are occasions when this is not possible because the settings are too strict or set too high. The security settings and the antivirus software sometimes read the update files as malware or harmful to the computer and therefore will not allow the software update to continue. I can assure you that the files needed are by no means harmful in anyway. To pinpoint the exact cause of the issue will be near impossible seeing that the security settings change for each program installed. When we create a new user profile the settings are set back to defaults and are more lenient to the software files needed to run the update. This task does not affect the rest of your files nor will it interfere with the day to day operations of your computer, the only thing that changes are the security settings on the computer. At this time, I am closing your case and noting that your issue has not been resolved. If you have any further questions pertaining to this particular support incident, simply respond to this message and we will follow up with you as soon as possible. Be sure that your Money and backup files are moved to a spot that you will have full privileges to, such as within the user's Documents folder. If they are in ProgramFiles, Vista will create an impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the user explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose RunAsAdministrator that time. Confirm that your version from help about is 17.0.*.1415 Then start Money by right-clicking the *.mny file in Documents, and choosing Open. Once inside change your backup path from "C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\" to "C:\Users\username\Documents\" if this applies. If this does not do it, consider setting IE7 back to all of its defaults. A way to test to see if it is a problem with an IE7 setting is to create a new user, and see if that user can restore and use a Money file from a *.mbf that you copy to a USB flash drive. - quote - > thanks > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, Spam spam bacon spam wrote: > > > > > > > > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > > > > > In microsoft.public.money, Spam spam bacon spam wrote: > > > > > > > > I'm running MS Money Plus Premium (2008?) on XP pro SP2 > > > > > > > > > I upgraded Money in June (or so) and since then I get this msg when I start > > > > > money: > > > > > > > > > <b> To continue operating successfully, money requires an update. Let us know. In IE, start with [IE6]Tools-> Options-> Security-> LocalIntranet-> DefaultLevel [IE7]Tools-> InternetOptions-> Security-> LocalIntranet-> DefaultLevel which may be sufficient. If that does not let you get updated, and if you are using XP, I would try creating a new user with Administrator privilege. Switch to that user and start Money with a new blank file with no LiveID. Let Money download the updates as that user. The theory is that if the problem is an IE setting, you will get default settings for the new user. If you succeed this way, it would accomplish the download, and it would point toward the reason the other did not work. You can delete the new user later, and your regular IE settings will not have been changed. |
