While you might handle this by recording a merger
(Portfolio-> RecordASpecialActivity-> RecordAMerger), I would do it
differently if I did not originally have both companies in your
Money file.

I would change the symbol for Y to X, rename the stock from Y to X,
add an appropriate comment, and do a 5:3 (or 100 for 460) split.
That will better maintain the performance display and make the basis
more clear.

For download purposes, if you download a remove 100 shares of X,
tell Money that is some other company. I like to have a fake stock
named Bogus1 already defined for the purpose. If you download an
AddShares of 460 shares of Y, tell Money that is already in your
account as Y. Then void any AddShares or RemoveShares that result in
your register.

You could try it both ways to see which you like better. To do that,
copy your *.mny file to a new file name. Open each to make the
change. Go with the one you like best. The RecordAMerger is the more
straight forward way, but I remember not liking some aspect of how
that worked.

Default Record Exchange of Shares?

As part of a buy-out, stock I owned has been exchanged for shares in the
surviving company, i.e. 100 shares of X Company were exchanged for 460
shares of Y company. What is the best way to record this in Money (2007)?

Thanks for any help.
