I am talking your network cards, hubs, and router. I just upgraded to 1Gbps and it is (10x) faster. |

| Money is brutally slow over a network. It also can have file corruption problems since it assumes all write complete on time every time and this assumption can fail miserably in the networked environment. I'd recommend against trying to use Money on one machine to use a file on another over a network. First, beware using a shared file. If both of you open the file at the> home/farm files (49,860KB data file). I have records from 1999 to > current. That means things might work fine, or your whole data file might be corrupted. Second, archiving won't do a thing for you. Everyone in this group recommends *against* archiving. If you archive, your file will get only a tiny bit smaller, but you'll lose access to older data. It's not worth the hassle. Go back to the backup before you did the archive. Third, the export/import is what you do if your data file is messed up totally. Microsoft was gambling that your file is partially corrupted, and that starting over with a new database would speed things up. 50 MB isn't that big, so I'm guessing that your problem is your husband's network connection. You need to speed it up. That probably means you need a new gigabit router. I used to try to load my file over a wireless connection, but it was painful, literally--my bladder couldn't stand it. I had to get a cup of coffee after each mouse click. :-) Once I ran a hard network connection to where I use my laptop, things got a lot better. I'll upgrade to a gigabit router one of these days and then I'll be all set. -- Steve Bell New Life Home Improvement Arlington, TX |

| I am using 2006 Deluxe over home network (2 computers) for our home/farm files (49,860KB data file). I have records from 1999 to current. When my husband tries to update/access the data from my computer, it is extremely slow. I thought if I reduced the size of the file by archiving some information would speed it up. I wanted to be sure I could still access the old information. I called Microsoft support and they told me to export/import files. I spent almost full day doing this only to find all the account totals were wrong in the new file. I have tried making a copy of the file; using "Archive" for all 1999-2005 information and the totals are off in the file also. Afterwards, I found files on internet saying not to use Archive. Can anyone suggest how I can speed up my husband's access? |
