Default Re: Recording dividends as budget income

Hi Dick,

Thanks for further info. Apologies for delay but busy elsewhere.
a) report - , yes dividends recorded and also on the Money monthly report.
The Investment Income line still says 0.00 in my Budget report.

I have tried to find the details/settings in my cash account, but to no
avail. Although when I display the account register for the related
stockbroker account; for any transaction, under Options the first line
displays either exclude (or include in ) from budget. All my dividend
transactions are set to include!
Any more ideas?
I should have stayed with Quicken
Thanks

Activity is what you do to an Investment. The Categories from that
Tools|Settings deal is how CASH side effects of those Investment Activities
is reported. I agree, it's kinda opaque, but it's how it works. To check
that this is working--without regard to budgeting--do an Income report for
the time period where you have Dividends Received activities for all
accounts. You should find them in the report.

As to how this shows up in the Budget, well, all too many things about
Money's budgeting are a mystery. For this reason, I generally avoid dealing
with Budget questions because lots of times there just aren't any good
answers. Is the cash account that receives the dividend set, in its
details/settings, for "include this account in budget planner" or similar?
That's one thought that comes to mind.

Thanks for your reply.
My settings are as you described. The problem is that when you go into the
cash account of your stockbroker, where the dividends are recorded, there is
no "category" box, the nearest would be "activity". Hence when setting up a
budget there seems to be a link missing. The budget allows the category
Investment Incomeividends, but displays 0 (zero) as income.
I have heard that there is a work-around but I don't know what it is.
Regards

Can't say for sure about what happens in Budget, but my dividends show up as
Investment Income : Dividends. This association of Investment transaction
types to Categories is set at Tools |Settings|Investments
Settings|Investment Categories... (in M05 and newer, anyway).

Default Recording dividends as budget income

In the Portfolio Manager, dividend income is not categorised. When setting up
a budget, how do you ensure that the dividends you receive are recorded as
budget income?
