As long as the voided $400 is offset by $400 of manual entries, you should be able to balance. I added a voided transaction to my register, and it didn't mess up the starting balance when balancing. I've generally rearranged my Money file to avoid having to void such transactions, so I can't confirm that a voided transaction won't mess up your budget. A common issue that messes up Money's budget are changed/deleted scheduled bills: For example, deleting and re-creating a paycheck series sometimes doubles one's budgeted income (if only it were that easy). I've been on this group for 6-7 years, and don't remember ever seeing a post about a voided item messing up the budget. If you make a copy of your file, make shortcuts directly to each file, and set each file to use a different name for backups, you could maintain two copies of your file for a short time to verify that there are no adverse effects in your budget or elsewhere. -- Scott Tyler agent_scotty-at-hotmail-dot-com |

That will stop Money Plus, and I think 2007, from downloading to the account. You can toggle SortAccountListBy-> HideClosedAccounts to see or not see the account. You can re-open the account from Money's point of view whenever you want. - quote - > ideas? > Brad > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, bpvarian wrote: > > > > I have 4 student loans, all with the same lender. It won't be downloaded again, but you'll have to leave it there until it's older than the oldest date for your bank's downloads. 2. Set up a cash pass-through account. Name it something descriptive like "Payments Pass-Through". Make the single large downloaded payment a transfer to the cash account. In the cash account this shows up as a deposit. Add four individual transfers in the cash account to make your loan payments. The balance in the cash account is now zero. -- Steve Bell New Life Home Improvement Arlington, TX |

| Ah! voiding will work (didn't know you could do that!). So I guess first I have to accept the transaction, then I can void it. and as long as it: 1) doesn't download anymore and 2) doesn't mess up my balance so that i can reconcile every month, and I guess 3) doesn't affect my budgeting then this solution will be perfect. Can you confirm this ? (to the best of your ability)? thanks for your advice. Brad "Scott Tyler" wrote: - quote - > Hi Brad, > What comes down is what comes down. | Hi Brad, What comes down is what comes down. There's not much you can do about it, besides voiding it (which should stop it from re-downloading this month). What other users do is set up a cash account for un-splittable items (multiple loan payments / paychecks / etc in a single transaction) - quote - > Transfer $400 to from paying account to cash account
--> Enter individual loan payments in cash account. It should now net to $0 > Download $400 transaction from bank and match it to $400 transfer in > checking. > A little extra work, but you get your 4 individual loan payments, and Money > gets its single $400 to match against. I don't want to cancel my bank (bank of america), just this one transaction with them that keeps downloading after I delete it. Every other transation I use with them is great, I just wish this one transaction would stop downloading everytime..... ideas? | Hello, I have 4 student loans, all with the same lender. So I pay them all in one check (say $400). In the past I tried to pay each loan seperately, sending the lender 4 different checks, but there were a ton of headaches with this as they lender never applied the payments properly. so in Money, I am forced to split this single transaction into 4 different ones because using "Split" will not allow me to transfer to a Loan account like it might with checking, savings, etc. Since the payments are all different amounts (though they may add up to $400) I use 4 separate transactions (which of course add up to my single payment that i made to the lender). so I really don't want to use the (automatically downloaded) single bank payment, i want to use my 4 manually entered payments. how can I get this bank statement to stop downloading? I have tried to delete it, etc, but of course it comes back everytime I do an online update. any ideas? thanks! Brad |
