Default RE: changing categories settings

Another short answer to your first question is that "Special Categories" are
just that and really aren't "Categories" at all beacuse of their "special"
behavior. As Cal points out, the oddball "Credit Card Payments / Transfers"
is not a "Special Category" at all, just an Expense category like any other
and designed solely to confuse. Delete it.

To your second question, and also put another way, you should recognize the
expense when you enter a transaction for the credit card. Paying the credit
card is kind like moving money from one pocket to the otehr. It doesn't make
you richer (an Income) or poorer (an Expense), it just Transfers it. Hence
the Transfer Special Category.

I am guessing you would want to set
Tools-> Settings-> AccountSettings-> DisplayAllAccountsInTheAdvancedRegister

Then for the category, go to the bottom of the list under SPECIAL
and use *that* transfer. In fact, I would delete the "Credit Card
Payments/Transfers" category.

See if that improves things.

Do you want your credit card payment on the expenses report?

If you buy $50 in gasoline on the credit card, isn't that a $50
expense? If you pay the credit card bill, is that also a $50
expense? That would mean you report you spent $100 when you actually
spent $50.

Default changing categories settings

Why is that when I go to set up a category on the category list, I can't find
the option of "special - category (transfer to or credit card payment)" in
the list?

Why can't I have the credit payment category on my expenses report?
