Default Re: Portfolio Cash Question

Hi Scott,

The starting balance for cash is zero. I ran the report as you suggested
and it shows the cash balance as of 1/31/04 to be the same as the cash
transactions register - both are correct. It is only the cash amount on the
portfolio screen that is wrong.

Other ideas?

Try going to "Change Account Details". Scroll halfway down and check the
starting balance for the cash portion.

Try going to "Reports", "Income and Expenses", "Account Transactions".
Customize the report to include only the investment cash account, include
all payees and categories, all transaction types and splits, running balance
using total of prior transactions.

I'm looking at the "running balance" in the cash transactions register. I'm
finally forcing myself to clean up my files and get everything balanced
against the statement so I'm backing up to 2003 data. If I look at the
balance in the far-right column of the cash transactions account as of
12/31/03, it agrees with my statement balance but the "cash ($)" line on the
portfolio as of 12/31/03 has the negative number.

Any other ideas?

Make sure you are looking at the "Ending Balance" rather than the
"Bank Balance" in the cash transactions register.

After reading about the standard repair, I tried that too. It did make one
repair ("fixed records in online table"), but the portfolio page still shows
the negative $28k. Any other suggestions?

Unfortunately, it didn't work. Should I try standard file repair?

Default Portfolio Cash Question

I have an investment account that I think has a problem. I have entered both
investment transactions and also some cash only transactions (in the
associated cash account.) When I look at the cash account, it balances to
the cash amount on my statement (which is about $1400), but when I look at
the portfolio screen, the "Cash ($)" line shows a value of ($28,417.32) - a
negative number - under the Market Value column.

I have not been able to figure out where this number is coming from. I
checked my other accounts to see if any were sourcing the cash from this
account in error but found nothing. Then I tried changing the "As of" date
on the portfolio screen to try to narrow down when the problem started, but
the negative number doesn't go away. The account was opened in 2003. I put
in an "as of" date of 1950 just for grins and it still shows the negative
number on the cash line. Any suggestions?
