After you posted this, my closed positions involving June expirations
remained visible past June 21st, and I wasn't sure why yours had disappeared
and mine were still there. Now that a month has gone by, all the June
expiration options magically deleted themselves, but the July expiration
options are still there. As the transactions themselves still exist, Money
can figure the capital gains, but everything else is gone.

I was able to get my closed positions to reappear by creating new options
with the same names as the deleted ones. When doing this, a dialog popped
up acknowledging that the option had been previously deleted (though not by
me ) and asking if I wanted to re-use it, to which I answered "Yes". I
went back through the creation dialog, entered July 31st as the expiration
date (it's not possible to leave it blank at this point ), and my past
closed position for that option reappeared. I was then able to cancel out
of the "Add Shares" dialog. Although it warned that canceling would cause
the investment to not be added, the closed position remained in the
portfolio. I then did the same for the other June expiration options.

I then rightclicked each option, went to "Investment Details", and blanked
out the expiration dates.

I've opened and closed Money a few times, and none of the options with
blanked-out expiration dates have disappeared on me.

The only downside I'm seeing to blanking out the expiration dates is that
I'll have to manually add the "Expire" transactions on the appropriate dates
for any positions not already closed or exercised, and that I won't get an
Advisor FYI warning about the pending expirations.

I'm going to try this as my workaround to this problem. If everything is
still there in another month, I'll know for sure that it works.

I have this same problem. It's a shame that there is no suitable
solution besides double entry of transactions. That's more work than
I want to do (not to mention the increased probability of errors).

Default RE: Option writing gains in investment performance reports

The best approach I've found so far to make gains from writing covered calls
show up correctly in both tax reports and investment performance reports is
to use a dummy tracking stock:
+ Use "Sell short" for the tracker in place of "Sell to open"
+ Use "Cover short" for the tracker at $0 in place of "Expire"

This is not ideal because you can't track the value of the option
automatically, but for me it's critical to have gains from writing covered
calls appear in investment performance reports so I'll live with it.

Yet another work-around for the shortcomings of MS Money.....this app
continues to disappoint with each release.

Thanks, Steve

Default Option writing gains in investment performance reports

Greetings:

Using Money Plus (17.0.120.1415) I am unable to get gains from writing
options (specifically covered calls) to show up in any investment peformance
report after the option expires. Any tips?

Note: Tax reports correctly show gains from expired options that I've
written as short term capital gains.

Thanks, Steve
