You are a more advanced user than Essentials was designed for. You
would be better served with Deluxe. You would probably want to
return Essentials.

I've only used a trial version of MEss just long enough to conclude the
thing was so crippled as to be worthless. I can't speak to your specific
case, but the model the Money development team believe reflects what "most
users prefer" is just that: a glorified read-only web site. Note this
marketing blurb from Microsoft's Money web site: "Microsoft Money Essentials
is the simple way to get the most out of online banking. Consolidate your
online personal accounts (banking and credit) in one place and stay ahead of
your monthly bills."

Money Deluxe ($10 more) is fully capable of doing exactly what you want to
do and lots more.

There have been reports of customers contacting customer service at the
online sales site and getting refunds on MEss. They've generally come in one
of two contexts: MEss is just a little too Essential for the users tastes or
What, MEss can't even deal with a pre-existing Money data file?

Good luck and please report back whether you are successful in getting a
refund.

I can enter transactions into the adjusted register but not into my account
register. I can't clear them manually? So is this right, the transactions
that I put manually won't go into my account register until I go online and
connect to my bank and then they are cleared. And if I can't connect to my
bank I have a useless program?

Essentials is severely limited. You'll probably do better using your bank's
web site. Return Essentials and get a more capable version.

That said, I can't imagine that you can't enter transactions manually. What
kind of account are you using? Are there "Add" and "Delete" buttons at the
bottom of the screen?
