| Thanks for the input Dick. You recognize the basic problem. In general what I am looking for is the amount of money I spend in each category and the amount that I add/remove from savings and retirement accounts. You (as did I) see the check boxes about transfers. None of them seem to give the answers that I want. I even found little correlation between what they gave and what I expected them to give. I did find the transaction report but that requires exporting to Excel to get monthly totals. I do not know if the budget information would have given anything. I turned off budgeting along time ago as it chewed up too much cpu power on previous versions and I was not using it. Perhaps someone might know how I can get a report like that below Jan 08 Feb 08 Mar 08 ...(or quarters) Income Gross Income Interest Investment Total Income Expenses Auto Charity Clothing Education Food Gifts Healthcare Housing Insurance Leisure Misc Pets Taxes Utilities Vacation Total Expenses Transfer to savings Transfer to Retirement Net Income -Expenses-transfers As Dick points out, it is easy to get everything except the last two transfers. I am not an accountant but I do recognize his point about not including them. I am even willing to combine the last two into a single entry. Perhaps I can even look at the net income-net expenses that the report gives as an approximation between the amount that is being placed into these accounts. Thanks for any suggestions. | Without chasing the specifics just yet, understand that "Income and Expenses" are everything Transfers are not. So, for the "Income and Expense" report to work this way makes a certain amount of sense. That having been said, if I customize and go to Details|Types|All types, I see a section at the bottom for Transfers. I haven't validated the output just now to see if it has what I expect. As to wanting some Transfers and not others, that's probably going to require careful manipulation of what Accounts are in the report and what ones are out. Also note the choices at Rows & Columns|Transfers. I conclude from about a minute's worth of playing that you have to line up with the choices here to get anything like what you want. You may not be able to get what you want. As always, one must validate the results in the context of one's own data. | I decided I wanted to generate a quarterly report by category showing monthly income and expenses. I was able to get it to work, but try as I might, I can not find a way to show transfers from my checking account to my savings account. I know that I do not want to show transfers to the credit card account. But the choices on the show transfers does not result in the transfers to savings or the purchase of CD's as showing up in the report. I am running Money Plus Delux. |
