| And that is on BOTH the original system where the file was AND on the new system where you are trying to open the file? Prior recommendation re. removing the password before moving the file still applies. | If you still have the original machine/installation operable, I'd try removing the password on that file/install before copying over the file. (Which may be harder to do now that you've changed the password online...) You can always put it back on afterwards. Doing this will eliminate one source of problems and then we can keep narrowing in. | Thanks for the advice. The password is one I used on the initial install years ago when it required a hotmail email address and password. I usually don't need to log into MSN money site, but when I click on "I don't need to use online features that require Microsoft Passport" and click "Next" it still won't accept the password. I have changed the password on Microsoft Money site and it still won't accept it. I loaded Money 2004 on vista pc using the original discs. | 1) Make sure your file is located in your Documents folder somewhere. Not Program Files. 2) Did you just copy over the file? 3) What kind of password? Local or Passport/WinLiveID? 4) Are you SURE you were using M04? MANY users who report these circumstances had forgotten about an upgrade along the way. In cases like this, Money won't say something helpful like "This appears to be a file from a later version of Money than the one installed." It asks for a password and fails. Even for a file that never was protected by a password. | I have been using Money since Money 98 came out, first on a Windows 98 PC and then on Windows XP PC. The version I'm using is 2004 and I had no trouble loading and running that version on both a Win98 and WinXP PC. I had no problems loading Money on a new vista pc -- except I can't get passed the password field. I have searched Microsoft Money web site and the only help I got was to change the password. I have tried that approach several times with no luck; neither the old or the new password is accepted. Can the good folks on this newsgroup give me some advice? Thanks. |
