It would appear that you misinterpreted what I wrote.

What I tried to say is there is not a feature called a "daily
backup". There is a *scheduled* backup, and you could set the
interval of that to one day. You may be indicating that is how you
think you have things set up to do.

So maybe you have these settings:

In M+: Tools-> Settings-> BackupSettings
x Automatically backup my Money file every time I close Money
Save in [a place on your hard drive ]. It is best to Browse to
a location rather than typing the path.
x Ask me before backing up each time*
x Compress Backup Files
Keep only the _20_most recent backup files [adjust to taste]

x Perform scheduled backups every _1_ days
Save in [a USB flash drive location]
x Ask me before backing up each time*
x Compress Backup Files
Keep only the _4_most recent backup files [adjust to taste]

.... or maybe not. If not, try changing. If so, change it, save it,
and then change it back again.

I was set to backup on closing and backup each day. If the backup
each day option doesn't work, why include it?

Money has a scheduled backup that could be set to back up each day,
but that only occurs on closing of Money. Normally people set the
scheduled backup to back up to removable media on a longer schedule.

Money has a backup for each time you exit if your settings are set
that way.

What are your backup settings?

I'm using my own folder which is neither of the two you mention. But
no daily backups occur.

Am I correct that it is not possible to get an uncompressed
backup file if I initiate the backup from the File menu? [M2007
Deluxe]

What do you think "daily backups" means it should do in this context?

True.

With the settings I currently have, I have Money keep my most recent
39 backups (I used to have it set to 99). So in my case it is really
a matter of not caring to take the time to do the compression and
backup if I have not really done anything significant. When I do
back up, and Money sees there are already 39, then it deletes the
oldest after my new backup.

If I had mine set to the default 4, then the concern with
overwriting even a backup from yesterday could be real if I
automatically backed up each time I exit.

I understand your desire, but I'm not sure it is possible to
implement it logically.

The first time you go "into Money" in a day, you may not know
whether you will go "into Money" again in the same day. At
least I would assume that many users do not know that.

In other words; my guess is that there are many folks who do not
know beforehand, how many times they will use Money in a given
day. Those people should be happy to take the (persumably
short) time to backup each time they exit Money ... or any
similar software.

[It's possible to design software that does not require one to
manually delete the pre-existing backup, each time one does a
backup.]

This would assume that you had just migrated to Vista.

In M+: Tools-> Settings-> BackupSettings
I suggest checking
x Automatically backup my Money file every time I close Money
Save in [a place on your hard drive ]. It is best to Browse to
a location rather than typing the path.
x Ask me before backing up each time*
x Compress Backup Files
Keep only the _20_most recent backup files [adjust to taste]

x Perform scheduled backups every _28_ days
Save in [a USB flash drive location]
x Ask me before backing up each time*
x Compress Backup Files
Keep only the _2_most recent backup files [adjust to taste]

Then periodically, perhaps each month or three, copy your latest
backup (uniquely named by Money) to a CDR.

I strongly suggest use of a USB Flash drive rather than floppies.
They are bigger, so you don't have to swap media to back up. Plus
they are much more reliable (but not failure-proof).

* The reason I have Money ask me, is that I don't want to back up
each time I exit. If I went into Money 5 times in a day, I would
not want to back up 5 times, nor would I want to delete 5 other
backup files. You will be given the choice to BackUpNow or to
Postpone.

In Tools-> Settings-> BackupSettings
I suggest you make the SaveIn field to be a place in your
"C:\Users\userName\Documents" folder and *not*
"C:\Documents and Settings\userName\My Documents".

Browse to set the location.
