I'm confused by "PCl". PC?

Usually, but not always, End User License Agreements (EULA) allow you
to move a software package to another machine. They usually restrict
you to one PC at a time, but some allow you to put a copy on both a
desktop and a laptop. *Microsoft Streets & Trips* specifically allows
two machines.

Rarely, you'll find a EULA that doesn't allow migration. I seem to
recall that *AutoCAD* is one of these, because their license fee was
partly based on the power of the CPU. (This is a memory from years ago.
I don't know what they do nowadays.)

I've moved all sorts of software packages from one machine to another
with no problems. Occasionally the code will complain and I'll have to
call the vendor to get an override code. *Windows* is in this category.

When you move *Windows* to a new PC, registration is required as part
of the installation. The database at *Microsoft* keeps track of your
hardware "signature" and might require you to call in for permission.
It's up to you to convince the phone technician that you're moving to a
new PC. I've never had a problem.

Note: If you upgrade too many parts of your PC at one time, *Windows*
gets suspicious that it's on a new PC and makes you reregister.

In theory, if you reinstall to the same machine, it does not count
as a new activation.

So if my Windows Vista needs a reinstal without changing the PCl, does
it mean I have to call Microsoft?

You can move it to a new machine if you uninstall it on the old one.
The automated registration might fail. If so, call Microsoft and
explain the situation. They'll walk you through the process

The license agreement says you can install it on a desktop and a notebook.

The FAQ on the Money website says that there is a hard limit of two
activations.

There has been a small handful of posts from ppl that have been able to
telephone and get an unlock or a new key in this circumstance. There has
been at least one post from someone that had to pay for a new key.

When this sort of thing happens with Windows or Office, the customer is
generally given the benefit of the doubt and allowed to activate by
telephone.

If MS tries to enforce a hard limit of two activations in circumstances such
as this, which would run counter to how MS has managed product activation on
its other applications, I think they'll get a worse backlash than Intuit did
when they tried to shove Safecast down everyone's throat in Quicken and
TurboTax back in 2001, which caused a lot of ppl to dump those products for
Money and TaxCut. Intuit ultimately reversed course and removed Safecast.

The fact that this threat even exists has made me seriously consider
switching to Quicken.

Default Registration help please

I have had to install money plus on my new machine. This means it has
been installed and registered for the second time. Does it mean that I
cannot install it on my Laptop and in future if I move to a new PC,
what happens please?
