| Once upon a time Money offered a service to enter your transactions in a subset "file" on the web and then merge them back to your real local file. They dropped that feature for reasons unknown. Sorry we don't have a better answer. It is what it is. | OK, then. I guess I'm stuck. I will follow your recommendation to take the file off the flash drive, etc. and go from there. Sounds tedious. My thought is that Money should be able to merge files. Thanks for your patience and all your help. ms "Dick Watson" <littlegreengecko[at]mind-enufalready-spring.com> wrote in message news:uIxCJYcyIHA.6096[at]TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... - quote - > The issue is that Money does not know how to merge files. | The issue is that Money does not know how to merge files. The network would make it easier to get to one or the other and might make it easier to move your currently active file on and off the desktop. It won't help you recover from the two file case you have now. | You are right about asking before diving right in. One last question (I hope): If I were to network the desktop (XP) & the laptop (Vista) - would that make any difference in this case? | Correct. The way to do it involves exporting an entire account as a .QIF file from the donor file and then editing that file to remove the transactions that are already in the recipient file and then importing the resulting file into the recipient account. Once you do that, Money will think you're going to get transaction data that way every time. And so on. Any Transfers involved (or Loan Payments) will complicate matters further. It can be done. It will not be trivial. My recommendation is to take the file off the flash drive and figure out what transactions from your desktop need to get in there and putting them in by hand. Too bad you didn't ask this question here before you got in this deep. | So, before I tear out my hair, is there no possible way that I can merge certain items from the flash drive into the desktop Money file without problems & pitfalls? | You HAVE to work in one file. If that means copying the file to and fro, so be it. Any other way to solve this is frought with possible problems and potential pitfalls. "melizabeth" <elizabet98_98[at]yahoo.com> wrote in message news:uIoqRePyIHA.2360[at]TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... On the desktop I have my original Money file. On the laptop, while on vacation, I used a flash drive to keep track of my checking account and added three months of checks. When I returned from vacation, I entered some new items on the desktop. Now, how do I keep those new items (on the desktop) and still update from the flash drive? If I have not made clear my situation, please feel free to contact me. |

Thank you. m |
