| FWIW, original broker did not have electronic downloads so my entries in that account were all manual. In Investing Tools | Investment Activities, the original purchase info is preserved so calculating the internal rate of return on the investment is still possible. (I do this with Excel because I haven't gotten familiar with Money's performance reports yet). The cut-and-paste put the call in the new account (and left the premium in the old account). Right now I don't see a major problem with this investment first appearing in the account before it was actually opened. The puzzling thing to me is why Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, allows me to Transfer Out the stock (which is covering the call) but not the call. Thanks for your help. |

Note that when you use the TransferOut, the performance figures start over in the new account. The basis is maintained, but it can be less obvious to see what that basis is. Whatever you do, keep extra backups in case you want to undo something. To avoid imperfections, I would have made the change this way: Changing brokers OldBroker to NewBroker. At time before downloading transfer outs, disable online access for OldBroker. Manually update any last minute transactions from OldBroker. Keep backup of OldBroker_out state. Rename and change FI in account details/settings from OldBroker to NewBroker. Enable online access for NewBroker. Download NewBroker. But delete statement the first time if version supports. Hope that later download does not have all of the transfer info. If it does, Void and later delete. If not, add missing early transactions. |

| I manually entered into Money 2007 Deluxe a covered call (buy stock, sell to open for a call option) that I made in September 2007. In November 2007 I transferred all of the assets (including the stock and short call) to another account. I was able to "transfer out" all of the equities to the new account. When I try to transfer the call MS Money says that "The activity 'transfer out' is unavailable for the investment type you have selected." In reality the calls were transferred from brokerage to brokerage. Any ideas how to make this happen in MS Money 2007? Thanks. |
