| Cal, I just downloaded a statement from an investment company that is in ofx format. There were numerous instances of the <FITID> tag and for a file that is somewhat larger the size was considerably out of proportion. The investment file is 40.8 kb while the month's checking activity with more than 30 entries is only 651 bytes. It appears that I'm not getting data in my credit union download and if that is the case it would explain why the process failed with the Quicken program also. I use Avast, Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy to protect my machine. If I am not getting data in the file; what could cause that problem? I would think the antivirus programs would stop the entire file from downloading not just parts of it. I am really confused now. I am eager to hear your interpretation of this dilema. | Thank you for taking the time to rview the file for me. I find it interesting that there are six xtra items in the qfx file. I expected two or three but not six. More importantly, I dont see any of the <FITIDentries. I would expect to see numerous occurances of them if they are data tags. | Thank you Cal, I think you might have given me a direction or an answer. I have used notepad to view the file and I don't find the <FITID> tag in my downloaded file. I was using a savings account entry that had only one entry for interest earned. Each transaction will have a record that includes "<FITID> " in thatfile. So if you have any <FITID> present, then I expect there are transactions in there. So make sure you have at least one occurrence of FITID in your file before anything else. Assuming you have transactions, you could consider pasting in the *contents* of your QFX file into a post. You would need to sanitize it to XXX-out account IDs (<ACCTID> ) at least. There can be more than one account in an OFX file. XXXing the balance info and other info would be up to you, so your email address could be searched on and tied to the info... you get the idea. So if you are going to do that, I can address how to do a little more complete sanitizing. If you want to search for discussions for turning a QFX file into a proper OFX file, consider this search: INTU.USERID qfx ofx - quote - > As
Good procedure and description.> for the QFX file association, I created it at the time I ran the registry > update from the credit union. | Cal, Thank you for your prompt reply. I am new to this Newsgroup thing so tell me if I am responding to your message appropriatly. I am using "reply to group" instead of "reply to sender" which is most acceptable? As for the downloaded file. It does include data so it is not empty. As for the QFX file association, I created it at the time I ran the registry update from the credit union. I have since importrd the statement file by renaming it OFX and storing it on the hard drive. Next I created the "test" money file that was completely empty and tried the "file" "import""downloaded statement" process and also let Money import the QFX version by itself. When money does it itself I can see a progress report saying that it is saving to a temporary file somewhere. In both cases I get the progress box saying the "Import complete" and that is all I get. No info no questions and no account. I have deleted all of the temporary internet files and tried again with no luck. I have not reduced the size of the memory that windows uses for these files as someone has suggested. It just doesn\'t seem to help. | IF you have no check history you will not see FITID . From the bank, can you pick dates and download 'enough history' to include a few checks? For a checking account... if you wrote a check - keep looking past the items you quoted until you see <TRNAMT> -100.00 That would be a $100 transaction. The NEXT field it should show is <FITID> 181 - that would be check number 181. My 2 cents on your past few replies ... I did not CREATE the QFX file extension on MY PC. If I look at the file extension info for QFX in "Folder Options- File Types" all it shows is "Money File" . I cannot go to Folder Options - QFX and "edit the info" - it's not an option. I can choose RESTORE - which doesn't change anything for me (since it hasn't changed - Money set it up). Did you create that QFX extension BEFORE trying to import it into Money ? When you look at QFX extension file info - can you choose "edit" ? If so, what are you telling your system to do when it opens a qfx file ? If you CAN edit that info - I would suggest deleting that entry and rebooting. Then "repairing" Money from Control Panel or reinstalling Money. You do not want Money to be doing ANYTHING that YOU specified. You want MONEY to handle all the references to qfx files. Period. One other thing .. I have a few accounts. For the checking account I go to THEIR website and login, then elect to "download statement" and the "period of time" , select type = QFX from their dropdown, which I then save on my desktop. When I open Money, I open the appropriate account, then " Import download file" and browse to my desktop. Note, BY DEFAULT I WILL NOT SEE that file. Where it prompts me for filename, the default is Money files or Quicken - NOT QFX files, so I type Checking.qfx and it then imports. There's no hand-holding / nothing "automatic" about it. I do it manually - try that if you haven't yet. Name it something like TestJ1.mny. Click Next. Select (*)I don't want to use a password. Next. On page titled "Add your accounts", click "Skip account setup.". On page titled "Congratulations" click Finish. Then you could try your same import. Money should then ask about an account. Let Money create an account, and see what shows up. To switch back to your regular file, Click File and select your real file from the list at the bottom of the drop-down list. ------------------- Alternatively, there is a way to adjust the file associations so that when you import a *.ofx file, it offers to let you save the file to disk rather than sending it right to the Money importer. I think you said earlier that your file might be named *.qfx. In that case, I am wondering how that got associated with Money on its own. Could you possibly be talking about *.qif? |

| Thank you for answering Cal, I was hoping you would help because you are very knowledgable. I have been reviewing many of your posts since I started using this "Newsgroup thing". I'm new to the process and began using newsgroups for the purpose of solving this Money issue. To answer your question, there is no column for "Transactions to Read or to Review. I have set up a half dozen accounts without problem and when I download their statements I get an alert to review the downloaded statements. With this credit union file it never happens. Money says it has imported the statement but the information is nowhere. The Credit Union IT manager says that he runs a registry update file on his machines and has never had difficulty with downloading the qfx statement. He says he can't see my problem because he can't make it fail. What I had to do when I went to M2006 was go to my bank website - login - select export statement - save as 'Checking.qfx'. Since then, I open Money / account and File - Import statement - browse to folder/ show all extensions and click on file - OK, then I get " Import complete" message. Is that what you are doing ? Anything in Event log - Application log ? |

| My Credit Union says they can download QFX statements into Money 2008 with no problem. I have tried four different machines and all give the same result. Money says "Import complete" "OK" but the data is nowhere to be found and it never asks which account should be associated with the import. My Credit Union is not currently on the Microsoft list. The download offered by the credit union says it is a quicken download but Quicken give the same result. I tried it before I purchased Money 2008 Plus. Please help me. |
