| I ran into this problem this morning too and was able to correct it. What I discovered was that one of my accounts had recently downloaded activity containing very large transaction numbers. (I believe 10 characters). In addition, the transaction numbers had a large gaps in sequence. When I removed the transaction numbers from the transactions the report generated as usual. Hope this helps. "Curtis Glenn" wrote: - quote - > Hey Guys: > Am running win xp and money 2007. My monthly reports has crashed. It's not dBASE II at least <grin> . that had used who knows what database engine. They made a big deal several years ago when they rewrote it to use the Jet engine (the same one Access uses). I seem to remember big talk about how you could use Access to get data from Money if you wanted. A couple of years ago, they changed the database again to, I think, MSISAM, a version of the Jet engine that keeps users from accessing the data with Access. Maybe there were issues with people modifying their data directly.... -- Steve Bell New Life Home Improvement Arlington, TX |

(more) easily into a relational database and get it back out in reports. Database programs are flaky by nature. They're vastly complicated, and the data files are gigantic. Just think--they have to be able to contain any kind of data anyone ever has or ever will dream up, then spit it back out. A major database, like the one a phone company uses to track billing, has many, many full-time people (database managers) massaging it to find and correct errors before they become uncorrectable. The database underneath Money has one (you). Corrupt data is a constant problem in all databases. The programmer who designed the interface (the screens) has to think of every single way you, and every other person, will ever try to enter data. That includes simple things like pauses between keystrokes, random mouse movements, and switching to other windows then back. Heck, different fonts are sometimes a problem. If he misses something, the data stored in your database might be bad. Things get more complicated when you add software to your PC that changes the way things work--keyboard shortcuts, for example. And, believe it or not, a properly-placed gamma ray will cause a bit to flip on your hard drive, creating an error. (I *think* it's a gamma ray; I'm remembering from college and I don't feel like hauling out my stone tablet notes.) It's amazing that Money works as well as it does. It hardly ever crashes (for certain values of "hardly ever"), the data goes in pretty smoothly, and it comes back out pretty accurately. We don't have many tools to do the management (Repair Money File or salv.exe), but they seem to fix all but severe problems. And all for less than $100. Now if they would just add that one little feature I've been wanting.... -- Steve Bell New Life Home Improvement Arlington, TX |

Consider trying the Remove All Bills Data feature on a *copy* ofyour file. If you just want to try it to test for whether it would be useful, just do it on the copy. To get some information within the program, File-> Repair-> RemoveAllBillsData Read the information. Then click cancel. Before proceeding, make an extra copy or backup of your file in case you want to undo something. The problem will be that if you remove all bills, you will probably want to add at least some of your bills back. This can be done manually with the aid of the reports that you print out before removing the bills. A technique that could help simplify re-entering your bills afterward would be to go your register and selecting a representative instance of your past bill and selecting "Make Recurring" (Ctrl+E). This would be especially helpful if the bill is complex, such as involving a split. |

| Hey Guys: Am running win xp and money 2007. My monthly reports has crashed. When I click on the report, it searches for changes in the monthly data, etc, but then "hangs". I think this is what is slowing my computer; my computer's processor is running something in the background causing everything to be slow: my browser, money, etc. How can I correct this problem in money? Have tried to reinstall money without success and reset my computer to an earlier date again without success. |
