| I too am frustrated beyond measure. After updating to Money Plus Deluxe it no longer automatically downloaded my Discover transactions when I launched the app. I had to manually request an update, which worked. Support, after setting up my Discover account in the sample file that comes with the product and finding that it worked there, concluded that my file was corrupted. Since repair did not fix this problem, it said that it found nothing broken, support's solution was that I needed to create a new Money file by exporting all my accounts. Well, the export has to be done one account at a time and, for stock or mutual fund accounts, does not include the fund identification data. So when you import, you have to look up the symbol and other data manually each time. Very time consuming. So I decided to live with things the way they are. The next problem I found was that sometimes the Portfolio Manager view does not display. The screen stays empty. At first I thought it was due to slow Internet speeds. But then I realized it doesn't need the Internet to display the Portfolio data Then I noticed that when this happens, when in account details view and you click on account summary it doesn't display. It just stays on the details view.. Support was no help. I really think that support is not willing to admit that there are bugs in the program because then Microsoft will have to distribute free fixes, which they don't want to do. I had no trouble with the previous version so I can only assume that this version is buggy. If anyone can help with these problems I'd be grateful. Thank you. -- Ellary Buffalo Grove, IL "winter" wrote: - quote - > Do you use Roboform - the automated password fill-in program? It causes my > Portfolio Manager to crash. | Do you use Roboform - the automated password fill-in program? It causes my Portfolio Manager to crash. When I run Money "as adminstrator" they will both work for me. | JasJ - Thank you very much for your helpful post. It fixed my update problem. Unfortunately, Portfolio Manager still does not work, but at least I can balance my check book. Thanks again! | - quote - > So is that the point of your post -- two rhetorical questions? Actually, I had two points: 1. Express frustration in the fact that I was forced to upgrade to a product that does not work 2. See if anyone had any suggestions. Can I assume you have no suggestions since all you could muster was a good chiding? As a side note, JasJ's suggestion worked - so you should make a note of that and can be helpful in the future instead of insulting. |

| Here is MS solution to the update problem (yours looks like mine)... To give the most accurate support possible, I would like to give a brief summary of the problem as I understand it. After viewing the case log my understanding is that you are unable to install the update. If I have misunderstood the issue, please don't hesitate to let me know. I apologize things are not working as they should and I will certainly help you with the issue in any possible way I can. What I recommend you to do is follow the steps below to make Money accept he update. 1) Uninstall your current version of Microsoft Money on your computer by going to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. If you have the Trial Version of Microsoft Money installed at this time, proceed to #5. 2) Open up Internet Explorer and go to http://www.microsoft.com/money/freetrial_deluxe.mspx and click "Download the Free Trial". 3) Once the program is installed, open the Microsoft Money program and once you are prompted to install the update, do so. 4) Once the update is complete, open Microsoft Money and go to Help> About Microsoft Money, check the version number. The last four numbers should now be 1415. 5) Close Microsoft Money and go to "C:/Program Files/Microsoft Money Plus". Right-click on the Microsoft Money Plus folder and select 'copy', then go to your desktop and right-click on there and select 'paste'. 6) Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall the trial version of Microsoft Money. Reboot your system. Then install your CD version of the product. 7) Once the program is installed, go to "C:/Program Files" and delete the "Microsoft Money Plus" folder. Click and drag the Microsoft Money Plus folder from your desktop into the Program Files folder or copy and paste. Once the folder is copied to the Program Files folder, open Microsoft Money and check the version number again. 8) After you open Microsoft Money and are not being prompted for the update, delete the 'Microsoft Money Plus' folder from your desktop. If anything is unclear, please feel free to let me know. I look forward to your reply. Thank you for choosing Microsoft. | I loved Money 2005, recommended it to friends and got 2 great years of use out of it. Then, it forced me to upgrade to continue online services. I didn't mind since it was only $40 and I got two good years out of it. However, Money Plus Deluxe has been a nuisance. I have never gotten portfolio manager to work. I spent 2 weeks sending emails with support where the guy eventually said "if this doesn't work, I can't help you." Great... shoudl I go buy Quicken? This weekend, I decided to try to completely uninstall Money and try a reinstall to get Portfolio Manager to work. Now, I can't run Money at all. Every time I load, it hangs for a few minutes and eventually tells me I need to update. The update appears to start, but then the window shuts and nothing else happens. If I try to re-run Money, it tells me I have an update in process. If I let it run all night (I did), nothing changes. If I reboot and try Money again, I get the same message. So, trying to fix Portfolio Manager (I had already tried all the reinstall Toolbox stuff), I have managed to hose Money. Is there some reason we can't just download the update rather than have this whole ridiculous "automated" process for updates? |
