I'll check with them - thanks for the help and the info.

I would want to understand the reality before figuring out how to
set the category. If Forfeiture was larger than "Earnings
Allocated", it could have been a part of your plan that says that
some unvested funds get distributed to the other plan participants
upon a plan participant leaving.

Maybe those who suffered the forfeiture get the earnings up to the
termination of their plan participation.

In guessing, the magnitude of the "Contribution" relative to the
other numbers could give a hint. Otherwise it could have been an
employer contribution.

I would ask your plan custodian what those items are. If you don't
want to do that, or if the custodian is not responsive, you could
create new categories to sum up these transactions with future
transactions. When you later figure out more of the story, you could
rename the category.

Default 401k transactions categorization

Hi. How would you categorize transactions listed as:

1) Forfeiture (positive amount)
2) Earnings Allocated (negative amount)
3) A "Contribution" that is not a employee match or a payroll deduction (not
sure where it is from)

All of the above occurred on the same day - unrelated to a payroll
deduction.

Thanks,
D
