| Yeah, but I must be among the few who still use MS Money 2004. Anyways, here's the latest. I downloaded the trial version and figured hey MS must support this. So I called 800-668-7975 and they wouldn't transfer me to tech support b/c they won't support trial version either. I'm like listen, why would I pay $80 for something that doesn't work in trial. How do I know it'll work? The guy said you'll get unlimited support. | Thanks Steve, but that solution also doesn't work. I downloaded a trial version of MS Money 2008 and tried to open the .mny file but I get an error message: "The e-mail address or password is incorrect. Please try again." But I know the email address is correct b/c that's the only hotmail account I have and never changed it. I also know the password is right b/c when I login to hotmail it works. I also tried restoring from my back file (saved on different disk). I do the restore and attempt to login in "offline mode" but then it says: "The password you entered was incorrect. Please try again." If I try "online mode" then it says the same thing. Either I've been seriously hacked, which I highly doubt, or this is a problem on MS end. -- topaz "Steve" wrote: - quote - > =?Utf-8?B?dG9wYXo=?= <topaz[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote on 29 Apr > 2008 in group microsoft.public.money: > > It's been 4 days now and I still can't sign-in to MS Money 2004. | Here is a link of what happened before and what I think is happening again to me. http://money.mvps.org/articles/russ/2004-07-29.aspx Unfortunately, the link that MS provided to resolve the problem is no longer available. The problem was described as: "If you think of your login information as a key, and our servers as a lock, then we changed the lock on the safe, and the old key wouldn't work anymore. " If there is anyone out there in Microsoft land that can re-establish link that solved this problem I'd greatly appreciate it. My guess is that you're stuck in a loop where your passport is disabled> password/passport/live ID works in hotmail, etc. but it doesn't work > in MS Money 2004. I called MS for help and they said they no longer > support this product. Well thank you very much MS. for Money 2004 because it's discontinued, and it can't be enabled because you're using a discontinued product. Recommendation: Download the trial version of Money 2008 (not Essentials). Make a copy of your data file. Load the copy into Money 2008. I bet it works. If it does, just pay for M2008. Save your download files onto two CDs for when your PC dies and you have to reinstall. -- Steve B. New Life Home Improvement |

| It's been 4 days now and I still can't sign-in to MS Money 2004. My password/passport/live ID works in hotmail, etc. but it doesn't work in MS Money 2004. I called MS for help and they said they no longer support this product. Well thank you very much MS. I'd appreciate any help you can offer. -- topaz "topaz" wrote: - quote - > I did a search for "sign-in" and there were many posts of people who had a > similar problem to me. | I did a search for "sign-in" and there were many posts of people who had a similar problem to me. In most cases it seemed like the problem was that there was a server change/update on MS side and the passport no longer worked on the user side. I have tried every suggestion but my password still doesn't work on MS Money 2004; but, it does work for hotmail, MSN Money, etc. Weird. -- topaz "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, topaz wrote: > > > I noticed many other people on this forum having the same problem but not > > having it resolved. > What thread subject and date are you referring to? |

| Thanks, but none of the suggestions in that link worked. I feel like I've been hacked or something... but everything else on my PC is fine. Did a VS and nothing came up. I noticed many other people on this forum having the same problem but not having it resolved. Looks like linking my passport password to my money file wasn't such a good idea. So far, I know my passport/live id password is correct but when I attempt to sign-in I get an error message (see subject line). I've done all of the suggested fixes on microsofts sight. Any body have a resolution to this problem? Please Help. -- topaz "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, topaz wrote: > > Unfortunately, this did not work. | Unfortunately, this did not work. I change IE7 to work offline and attempt to open my money file. The error message I get is "The sign-in attempt for ___[at]hotmail.com was unsuccessful. Please try your sign-in name and password again." I know that I'm typing the password correctly b/c it's the same one I always use and nobody else uses this PC. | Hi, All of a sudden, I can't open My Money file. I have version 2004. Never changed my password. Always used the same account. When I opened my money my email sign-in, which is usually populated, was missing. When I enter my email I get the message "The sign-in name you entered is not associated with this file. Please enter the correct sign-in name or open another file. " I've reinstalled money. I've tried doing a restore but it still requires a password. I've opened the sample file and ran the updates from the Tools menu. I have years of data that I can't lose. Help! -- topaz |
