Rename "Hess 2907" to "Hess". It will ask if you want to merge it. Answer Yes.

In the payee rules manager for "Hess", add "Hess 2907" as a payee name variation. Future downloads of Hess 2907 should convert automatically to Hess. That should happen already with the standardized payee names option enabled but listing 2907 explicitly forces it for that variation.

Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServiceSettings-> ShowStandardizedPayeeNames
will cause you to match an existing payee that differ only by a
numbers or punctuation. Click MoreDetails to the right of the
setting for more information.

It should catch on.

Default Renaming and categorizing not working at all!

I'm getting a little torqued with Money 2008 Deluxe.

So I download my transactions from my bank on a regular basis. I often buy
gas at Hess. When I download the transactions they show up as "Hess 2907". I
MOVE them to the "Hess" payee. The following week I'll get gas again at the
same station, download the transaction, it's labeled "Hess 2907" and instead
of updating the name to just Hess, it keeps the downloaded name. I've enabled
all of the settings to standardize payee names and it still does it for every
transaction I download and all payees. I go to payee rules manager for "Hess
2907" and try to enter "Hess" and it says it's already used. What the hell am
I missing.

Also, Money doesn't remember any of the categories I assign to any
transaction. I label all of my Hess transactions as "Automobile:Gas". When it
downloads the transactions, it labels them whatever it thinks is right no
matter how many times I change it.

Does all of this seem counter-intuitive or is it just me?
