| I had a similar problem but noticed during the opening that if i kept hitting OK (i didn't even bother to count how many times!) it eventually worked. but a screen rewrite would restart the process. turns out it was only the HOME page that caused the issue. I remove ALL content from the home page and the error message went away. at this point i'm assuming that it was missing home page modules from my earlier version not appearing and it didn't know what to do with the missing commands for the non-existent modules. easy bug fix, but someone has to tell them. | It should work. I'm doing just what you plan on doing. Only problem is trying to remember what drives are what! | One other thought: you might try File | Repair on the old machine before copying the file. Keep a copy before even trying that. | So, you have Money Plus Deluxe installed on both machines. When you open the data file on the XP machine, it works fine. But when you open a copy of the same data file on the Vista machine, you get "The operation cannot be performed" message at some point. At what point? This may be an issue best addressed by a support case directly with Money. Given above, this is not a common situation at all. | 1) Don't mess with backup files. Just move over the .MNY file and double click on it. 2) On Vista, DO NOT store the file anywhere but somewhere in your personal Documents or Desktop folders. In particular, do **!*not**!* store it in the Program Files folders. 3) You never say what has happened (error messages or what not) or what you have tried on the Vista machine to make this work. Have you tried opening a copy of the Money Sample data file placed on your Desktop? Are you SURE the Money version installed on Vista is as new a version or newer than you were running on XP? If M05 in particular, but a good idea generally: have you opened, say, a copy of the Money Sample data file placed on your Desktop and then run an Internet Update to MAKE SURE that the Money service patches are as new or newer than what you are using on the XP machine? How did the Money application on your Vista Machine get installed? Did the PC maker install it? Is it Money Plus Essentials (MEss for short) edition?!!? | I have MS Money Plus installed on a desktop running on XP and have created a backup of this Money file and saved it to a flash drive. I also have Money installed on a different desktop with Vista and want to restore that same backup, but am unable to do so. I have changed the backup location as well as tried several ways of transfering the data (via email and on a CD) with the same results. I have tried several backups to eliminate the possibility of a damaged file. I am all out of ideas, BUT need to restore this backup on the Vista PC, is there anything else I can do? |
