| I was not trying to route the download of financial data automatically, I was trying to prevent an automatic download and save the file. MS Money 2001 could not handle an automatic download of data from an investment firm. I did solve the problem by changing the .qif file extension association. On the IE7 menu bar I found the file associations function using the following path: Tools> Internet Options> Programs> Set Programs> Set Program Access and Computer Defaults. Once there I changed the file extension association for ..qif files from MS Money to Adobe Acrobat Reader. Since Adobe doesn't recognize this file type I was presented with a pop-up window asking whether to Save or Run the file. At this point I could save the file and then use the MS Money import option to bring the data into my investment portfolio as a "new or recovered account". Anyone know the fix or is this Microsoft's way of forcing an upgrade > of MS Money? that you will have full privileges to, such as Documents/MyDocuments. If they are in a place like ProgramFiles, Vista will create an impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the user explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose RunAsAdministrator that time. Check that the SSL2 protocol is enabled. That checkbox is in IE Tools-> InternetOptions-> Advanced. Right-click the Money icon and choose RunAsAdministrator to let possible updates happen. Then reboot the computer. If that doesn't do it, you might have to get into Vista compatibility mode settings. Then File-> Import the QIF file if it does not get routed in automatically after your reinstall. |

| I recently upgraded to Vista and installed Money 2001 that I had been successfully using with XP. Now I can't import data in .qif format. Instead of asking where I want to save the data, I get a pop-up window asking which account the import should be assigned to. Even if I make an assignment, the data is not there and I can't find it. The suggested fix from MS Money is to change the action on registered file types with a qif extension in IE to "confirm open after download". That option does not exist in IE7, or I can't find it. Anyone know the fix or is this Microsoft's way of forcing an upgrade of MS Money? |
