I was surprised with new Discover cards today, too. I asked when I called
to activate it why the reissue. Of course, the guy just spouted the same
BS that was in the letter -- security improvement.

I suspect we'll read shortly about a security breach with compromised
account numbers.

I went online and it looks like they are sending out new cards (with new
account numbers) to card holders. I just got mine yesterday. Their website
says they are doing an "upgrade" to their system.

Looks like you were right on!

My wife, who does most of the bookkeeping, reported yesterday that we had
received a refund on our Discover card that matched an expense. She said
she would check the online statement to see if it was valid, but I haven't
heard what she found.

I suspect that there's a bug in the Discover database.

Default Duplicates from Private Issue (DiscoverCard)

In the last few day's, I've started getting matching Credit and Debit entries
from Private Issue. For each charge (say, $23.12), I get a matching (but
invalid) Credit of $23.12 with the same date.

I'm not aware of any changes I've made to cause this. Is anyone else seeing
this? Any ideas on a fix?
