| Many thanks! Painful - but it worked. I recommend this method be posted on the Microsoft Money Solutions page as this did the trick. This ONLY works for Microsoft Money Plus Deluxe installed from CD. 1) Uninstall your current version of Microsoft Money on your computer by going to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. If you have the Trial Version of Microsoft Money installed at this time, proceed to #5. 2) Open up Internet Explorer and go to http://www.microsoft.com/money/freetrial_deluxe.mspx and click "Download the Free Trial". 3) Once the program is installed, open the Microsoft Money program and once you are prompted to install the update, do so. 4) Once the update is complete, open Microsoft Money and go to Help> About Microsoft Money, check the version number. The last four numbers should now be 1415. 5) Close Microsoft Money and go to "C:/Program Files/Microsoft Money Plus". Right-click on the Microsoft Money Plus folder and select 'copy', then go to your desktop and right-click on there and select 'paste'. 6) Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall the trial version of Microsoft Money. Reboot your system. Then install your CD version of the product. 7) Once the program is installed, go to "C:/Program Files" and delete the "Microsoft Money Plus" folder. Click and drag the Microsoft Money Plus folder from your desktop into the Program Files folder or copy and paste. Once the folder is copied to the Program Files folder, open Microsoft Money and check the version number again. 8) After you open Microsoft Money and are not being prompted for the update, delete the 'Microsoft Money Plus' folder from your desktop. |

| No joy. A/V & firewalls off. delete program. - Install $Plus from disk as admin. - Installs fine. - Run icon as admin; let it start the update process; files download; dialog box closes; I let everything perculate for 10 mins. Program does not start so reboot. - Money wants to download updates again to run properly; however, I get an error that Money has already started installing updates & needs to continue finish that first. Same as I've been getting the last few days. Do you recommend using the trial version method to see if this "groundhog day" will end? - LarryHH "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, LarryHH wrote: > > Does this work for Vista as well (just moved to a Vista machine from XP - had > > no problems with XP)? > Yes..... > but here are some additional things that you may have already taken > into account: > Be sure that your Money and backup files are moved to a spot that > you will have full privileges to, such as within the user's > Documents folder. Yes.....> no problems with XP)? but here are some additional things that you may have already taken into account: Be sure that your Money and backup files are moved to a spot that you will have full privileges to, such as within the user's Documents folder. If they are in ProgramFiles, Vista will create an impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the user explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose RunAsAdministrator that time. Install Money from the Money Plus install file or disk by browsing to the setup file. Right-click that file, and choose RunAsAdministrator. In fact, I think you do that whenever you intend to install something into Vista. After install, right-click the Money icon and choose RunAsAdministrator to let potential updates happen. Reboot the computer. You should not have to run as Administrator normally. Also change your backup path from "C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\" to "C:\Users\username\Documents\" |

| Does this work for Vista as well (just moved to a Vista machine from XP - had no problems with XP)? I've tried the suggestions on the solutions page, deleted the MMNYCORE files, reinstalled, etc. Larry "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Dick wrote: > > I am running Money 2008 Plus. > > > I keep getting a message "Money need to udate to continue". | I am running Money 2008 Plus. I keep getting a message "Money need to udate to continue". When I click OK it says that the update cannot run because it is blocked by a firewall. I use AVG and uninstalleded it and Money still will not update. How can I get the update to work? I am running Windows XP. -- Dick |
