If that was a correct assumption I would not change the starting date and balance on your next balance of a real statement. So as long as you don't have transactions marked Reconciled but are not even present on the new statement, you should be OK to leave the starting balance and date unchanged, and just put in the ending balance and date of the new statement. - quote - > Cal - any MVP mastery advice?
Not really. I am certainly no master of the balancing procedure.I will remind you to review your backup situation. Restoring a backup is your method to undo things back to a point in time. |

Actually I got the advise from somebody else. If adjusting the> balance, if I do not want to go thru the trouble of locating a small error, > most likely due to a service charge, droppd online charge or some such > thing. But he advises against that. starting balance works well for some, that's good. |

| Thanks - I found that shortly after posting the query... Somehow, it is still not working out for me.... I've Ctrl-Shift-M all the items which have cleared through my last statement - there are a handful of things in the register which have been recorded but not cleared the bank (outstanding checks) and a handful more of electronic-debit things which have cleared the bank, but were not on the 4/2/08 statement. Perhaps the magic now is knowing what date to set for the "statement" the starting/ending balances to provide, (and then maybe how to figure out what, if any, adjustment is needed to my original account starting balance). Do I need to somehow "reset" the balance wizard info since I started trying to go through this? I tried at one point with a "virtual" statement of 4/3/08, and it is selecting a number of transactions that posted on 4/3/08 as "checked" - not sure I want this since they will show up on my next statement so I don't really want them reconciled when I come back through next time... Cal - any MVP mastery advice? "WOppenhe" wrote: - quote - > See Cal Learner's 4/2 response. | See Cal Learner's 4/2 response. I have always adjusted the starting balance, if I do not want to go thru the trouble of locating a small error, most likely due to a service charge, droppd online charge or some such thing. But he advises against that. | I am having issues in balancing / reconciling accounts with Money Plus Deluxe. I started using the 2007 verison of Money sometime last year, and had downloaded/synced a number of accounts - then fell out of the habit until sometime in Feb 2008 - I updated to Money Plus at that time, and pulled the "old" transactions to where I think I had recaptured everything. I know my accounts are "correct" - the Bank balances matches my Register balances (when accounting for transactions that have not cleared/posted), so at least I feel good that what is currently recorded is "right". When I go to "Balance" an account, and enter the starting/ending balance, Money indicates the Starting Balances don't match - I go through the statement and all the transactions are properly recorded / reconciled, and Money still thinks it can't Balance. If I let Money enter an adjusting balance then the Bank & local Register amounts are way off. At one point I went back through all the 2008 statements (maybe one or two back into 2007 as well) to make sure all transactions were there & correct - is this "starting balance not matching" due to the original setup of the account? How do I get this to a state that I can get Money into a "clean" reconciled state so that I can do an easy balance going forward? thanks in advance... |
