Does it open the default file OK (not yours - the program's empty one)? If so, how are you inputting which file to open ? After install, rename the default money.mny to money.default.mny and put YOUR file into the default folder - calling it money.mny Money should then not have to look for anything. It will expect a file called money.mny and Money should find it - now yours. PS In case you hadn't used it in quite a while ... Money2004 has expired for online updates - you knew that ? |

| Did you attempt to open the data file (.mny) directly (double-click or open [with]) or did you just execute the Money program (.exe) directly, expecting it to open your most recently accessed data file? How did you try to repair the file? I have a theory, but it's dependent on your responses. Be sure that your Money and backup files are moved to a spot that> but cannot get it to access my .mny files. I get the eror message box "Money > cannot locate <folder & file path> or cannot open it, possibly because it is > a read-only file etc. etc. etc." > I have tried repairing the file, restoring from a backup and moving to a > different location but Money still cannot open the file. > What went wrong? you will have full privileges to, such as Documents/MyDocuments. If they are in a place like ProgramFiles, Vista will create an impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the user explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose RunAsAdministrator that time. Check that the SSL2 protocol is enabled. That checkbox is in IE Tools-> InternetOptions-> Advanced. Right-click the Money icon and choose RunAsAdministrator to let possible updates happen. Then reboot the computer. Also change your backup path from "C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\" to "C:\Users\username\Documents\" |

| Not sure if this will help or not, but in Vista you need to run Money as an Administrator. All I did when I had troubles in this regard was right click the shortcut, chose properties and selected to run it as an Administrator. You also might want to make sure that the path is exactly the same as on your other system, because I'm assuming you used a backup from the previous system and if the path isn't the same, you'll get at least part of that same error you mentioned .. especially the <folder & file path> part. | Have just converted my OS from XP to Vista. I have reloaded MS Money 2004 but cannot get it to access my .mny files. I get the eror message box "Money cannot locate <folder & file path> or cannot open it, possibly because it is a read-only file etc. etc. etc." I have tried repairing the file, restoring from a backup and moving to a different location but Money still cannot open the file. What went wrong? |
