It's all so much BS! Name one other software product that makes you
jump through hoops with your operating system to install. I've had
all the problems mentioned about, been on the phone with Money
support, 3 hours! Change this, repair that, f this. Everything else
I have works just fine. They even told me my key was wrong, and I
downloaded it from Microsoft! They put me back to Digital River,
their ecommerce folks, who pushed me back to Microsoft. No one knows
anything about it. As much as I don't want to learn another product
right now, or pay more, this copy of Money is going back one way or
another. Tech support can call me (sometime in the next 72 hours!)
all they want, I'm not there. I am so done with Microsoft products,
backing them for years, giving them the benefit of doubt. I'm done.

Hi I had the exact same problem earlier and found my solution at:
http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/483.aspx
Basically what they have you do is:
"* Click on 'Start', 'Run' and type in 'cmd' in the textbox
* Press 'Enter' - this will bring up a command prompt box
* Type in secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db
secsetup.sdb /verbose
* Press 'Enter'
* You should see a message 'task is completed' when this is done, and a
warning message on something that could not be done (ignore this message).

If you are using Windows XP Home, the 'secedit' command is not available,
and you will need to copy them from a Windows XP Professional machine. You'll
need two files:

%windir\system32\secedit.exe and %windir%\help\secedit.chm

Copy these over to your machine and put them in the same locations as you
obtained them from, and then follow the instructions above."

Contact Money support.
You will then need to be escalated to Windows support (by Money support) so
that Windows can fix this problem with not being able to reset your security
settings in XP Home.

uninstalled IE7. No luck.

Deleteing SP2....no idea how to do this.

There has to be an easier way or I'll just return this and move to
quicken I guess

If you are ussing internet explorer 7, try uninstalling the program.

System will default back to ie 6.
Then restart the computer , try installing Money Plus again.
If this does not work , only other resolutions have been to uninstall
win xp sp2 .
Then resinstall win xp sp2.
Try to install Money again
Or to try a repair install of windows xp.
Last option is to format system.

Hmmm...just tried creating a different user with Admin privileges and
got the same error message.

Have tried KB 827814 as well. Any other thoughts?

I would try creating a new XP user with Administrator privilege.
Switch to that user and install Money.

The theory is that if the problem is an IE setting, you will get
default settings for the new user. If you succeed this way, it
would accomplish the download, and it would point toward the reason
the other did not work. You can delete the new user later, and
your regular IE settings will not have been changed.

Alternatively, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827814/en-us may
help.

Default Setup was unable to install some of the components needed to runMoney 2008

I have Win XP Home and cannot get Money 2008 to install. Error
message is "Setup was unable to install some of the components needed
to run Money"

Have tried reinstalling Windows Installer with no luck.

Would like to try resetting security settings in the registry but
cannot find anyway to do that for XP Home...only XP Pro is coming up.

Perhaps none of this works and someone has a better way to get Money
to install on XP Home?
Rgds,
CK
