If that is available on the CD backup, that is the only file you should copy over directly to a new machine for Money. Make sure the copy is not marked read-only. If you installed Money 2004 trial version on the office machine, it could convert your *.mny file. However the file would not be useable by your Money 2002 install on the repaired computer. If you just want to read and print during the interval, that could be a good option. Then get the Money 2002 file from the CD for the laptop. Any changes you make in that month would not be readable on the laptop unless you get Money 2004 for the laptop. Might well be worthwhile. |

| My laptop with Money 2002 died and had to be sent in for service which will probably be about a month. The good news is that I backup up all my data files the day before and burned them to CD. My office machine is running Windows 98 SE and Money 2001 but it will not read the 2002 files. I can't install XP because the machine will not support it. I used a friend's machine and can open my backup file but I don't want to leave my financial data there. Is there some way I can transfer the data to Excel or save it in a backwardly compatible format? I tried to synchronise to the Web but even after downloading the upgrade it doesn't seem to work. I basically just need my checkbook registers. I couldn't find a way to print just the registers? Can anyone think of a good workaround until I get my laptop back? Thanks, Sue |
