| Thanks Cal, Sorted. Not entirely sure how, uninstalled and reinstalled money again to clear all file paths etc. Then as you suggested opened as administrator. This immediately triggered a money update. Once that had completed money was closed and reopened, opted to restore backup and it went like a chram. Can only assume the problem was that money was trying to update whilst importing the backup file. Thanks for your help. Only one backup available? Review your backup policy for the future.> The backup file is in my Documents folder. - quote - > I am running Money 2004 (UK) so Don't have access to money plus.
Copy Sample.mny from your install folder to your Documents folder.See if you can open that file. Also, see what happens if you start Money by right-clicking your Money icon and choosing RunAsAdministrator. Also, instead of using the backup from DVD, consider copying the *.mny and any available *.mbf files from the old hard drive (hook the drive to a different computer to read the hard drive as a second drive). - quote - > ================================================== > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, kaf wrote: > > > > my computer (Running XP) died a couple of days ago, before it did I put my > > > backup of money 2004 onto DVD. > > > > > I now have a new PC (Vista) and have installed Money 2004 from my old Works > > > Suite software. | Still can't make it work Cal. The backup file is in my Documents folder. I am running Money 2004 (UK) so Don't have access to money plus. ================================================== "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, kaf wrote: > > my computer (Running XP) died a couple of days ago, before it did I put my > > backup of money 2004 onto DVD. > > > I now have a new PC (Vista) and have installed Money 2004 from my old Works > > Suite software. If they are in ProgramFiles, Vista will create an impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the user explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose RunAsAdministrator that time. Check that the SSL2 protocol is enabled. That checkbox is in IE Tools-> InternetOptions-> Advanced. Install Money from the Money Plus by browsing to the setup file. Right-click that file, and choose RunAsAdministrator. After install, right-click the Money icon and choose RunAsAdministrator to let potential updates happen. Reboot the computer. You should not have to run as Administrator normally. When you restore, don't restore to the default location. Instead Browse to your Documents folder and restore there. Once in your file, also change your backup path from "C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\" to "C:\Users\username\Documents\" |
