That number is downloaded. If it is not changing during updates
because the number is no longer being provided by your financial
institution, there is a way around that: download a statement (which
could be a File-> Import of a simple QIF file, and delete the
statement by right-clicking where it says you have transactions to
read.

If the FI is sending the number in the next download, the number
will reappear.

Default Balance on a download account

Because I had the problem with the download not ending up in the proper
account, the balance that shows at the top of the account register as 'Bank
Balance' is not correct. What is the best way to address it. Right now it
tells me the balance is about $1,200 less than in real life.
