If the OP is knowledgeable with Excel, he could generate an account transaction
report which includes the split transactions; export the report to Excel; and
then process it in Excel to check the sum of the splits.

There's a fair amount of cleanup required once the report gets to Excel, but it
can be automated with macros.

I just tested what I thought would work in M+. No Joy. I may play around
with it some more but unless I find something, I think it's a "feature" that
could be "improved" in the parlance of the Money team.

What I tried in M+ Deluxe, Advanced Register, Advanced Reports (hint to any
lurkers or other interested parties: this is a re-creation test case):

Create two transactions in my core cash movement account. One was a
$1,000,000 deposit split into $1,000 Other Income : Rebates and
Miscellaneous and the balance of $999,000 unassigned. The next was a
$1,000,000 withdrawal split into $1,000 Miscellaneous : Other and $999,000
unassigned. Then I went into the Transactions by category report. In
customize, I:

Reset to defaults.

Set Rows & Columns | Show splits

Set Category | Select all (note that this implicitly selects Include
unassigned income transactions and Include unassigned expense transactions.
At this point I was feeling pretty good that I had a solution for the OP.
And I think this used to work at some point in Money's past.

When I look at this customized report, I find my $1,000 Miscellaneous :
Other expense and I find my $1,000 Other Income : Rebates and Miscellaneous
income. Nowhere do I find the $999,000 unassigned income or expense. The
Total Income Categories doesn't reflect the unassigned $999,000 of Income.
The Total Expense Categories doesn't reflect the unassigned $999,000 of
Expense. There is no section for either. They are just not there.

Ditto the Monthly Income and Expenses report, which, in its default
settings, says it will show unassigned income and expenses.

Ditto the Income and Spending report, which, in its default settings, says
it will show unassigned income and expenses.

Ditto Spending by Category, which, ditto.

The Account Transactions report shows them. (It's a miracle! And, as noted
previously, a report setup the right way and exported to .CSV with some
crafty formula design could probably be used to find these cases where the
sum of the splits doesn't match the total transaction. I've never done this
specific case, but I've done enough similar things to feel pretty confident
that with enough time and energy I could get there this way. Note that the
Export to .csv is a better possibility than MoneyLink since MoneyLink never
queries out the root transaction and its splits at the same time.)

At this point, I gave up in disgust.

Moral of the story: as with all things Money, you must be prepared to
independently validate your results since the Money team doesn't validate
the app.

This is a great question. I'm not thinking of a way to get this reported
directly. I think Money considers the difference between splits that don't
add and the total transaction as "unassigned income" or "unassigned expense"
depending on the direction of the difference. Perhaps one of the
transactions by category reports can show this. The other ugly possibility
that comes to mind is a transactions report showing splits exported to .csv
and some fancy formula work in Excel to detect this condition.

I'll try to remember to check for a way to get the unassigned income/expense
reported next time I'm at my machine where I can test this.

Default Split Transactions do not total transaction amount (See Warnings)

I have a bunch of transactions where the total of the items split into
different categories does not add up to the transaction amount. I've
noticed that for electronically received transactions, I get a message
on the transaction that says "See Warnings", but I don't seem to see
this for transactions that have been accepted or were entered
incorrectly (not electronically received). Is there any way to write
a report to find these transactions where the different categories do
not add up to the transaction amount?
