| The fact that you have had no problems with your bank does not mean that this is bad information, nor does it make your statement "YOU DO NOT NEED SPECIAL MAGNETIC TONER OR INK" any more than pragmatically true. These guidelines and specifications are involved: ANSI Standards and Technical Guidelines Pertaining to Check Design TG-2 Understanding and Designing Checks TG-6 Quality Control of MICR Documents TG-8 Check Security Guidelines X9.7 Bank Background and Number Convenient Amount Fields X9.13 Specification for Placement and Location of MICR X9.18 Paper Specifications for Checks X9.27 Print and Test Specifications for Magnetic Ink Printing X9.29 Check Carrier Envelope Specification X9.40 Check Correction Strip Specification X9.51 Document Fraud Deterrent X9.53 Specification for Check Endorsements I'm no expert in what all these require--but I'm betting you aren't either, and I'm betting your homebrew checks don't comply with all of their requirements. Does that mean they won't transfer money for you? Clearly not. But these specs exist for reasons that have nothing to do with whether your checks can transfer money for you and everything to do with the efficiency, throughput, cost, accuracy, and reliability of the overall system. I stand by the statements in the FAQ. You can use homebrew checks that don't meet requirements for such things and they might just work. <Money[at]mn.rr.com> wrote in message news:122f01c381dd$e6e8ae30$a401280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > There is a lot of really bad information on this subject, > I just went through the process of converting from > Quicken, where I did what you are asking, to Money 2004. > The short answer is NO, Money will not print everything > you need for using blank check stock. | Scott, You are wrong. | There is a lot of really bad information on this subject, I just went through the process of converting from Quicken, where I did what you are asking, to Money 2004. The short answer is NO, Money will not print everything you need for using blank check stock. But there are at least two solutions that are very cost effective. First statement relative to printing the bank routing MICR codes. YOU DO NOT NEED SPECIAL MAGNETIC TONER OR INK. This is a major false statement made very often. Most if not all check routing readers are now optical, not magnetic. I have been using standard laser toner for over 5 year now and have had no problems with my bank. I used an HP 710 inject for three months with standard ink as a test for about 3 months in 1998. Those checks also worked fine. Money, like Quicken, will not print the Bank routing codes, or the normally preprinted Bank name, address, account name, address. There is software out there that will. Two different solutions. (1) You can get software that will print the required information to blank check stock in Quicken of Money Check Format (Vertical and horizontal spacing of data entry fields are different) Then you reinsert the printed forms and print direct from Quicken or Money. (2) You can set up a Generic Test file as your printer for Quicken or Money checks, and print your checks to this file. Then use a software program like 'CheckMagic' whick will take the data from the file and print complete checks with all the required information. The publisher of CheckMagic claims that the program only works with output from Quicken, but I changed the location where it looks for the file and it works fine with Money. I discovered how to do this yesterday and compared the printed checks from Quicken and Money. They are identical. The only negative to this software, if it matters to you, is that it only prints to business size checks, three to a sheet. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > Does MSMoney have check printing capability? > What I mean directly is 100% blank check stock. > Payer information, bank routing, check number, etc. > Not just the payee, date, and amount. > . |

| You need special magnetic (MICR) toner for that. | Does MSMoney have check printing capability? What I mean directly is 100% blank check stock. Payer information, bank routing, check number, etc. Not just the payee, date, and amount. |
