What were you running when you got that indication? It is also possible that a friend's computer could read the bad floppy due to drive-to-drive variations. Here is a Google search: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...ecovery+floppy Picking one that lists a price at random, I see $30 from http://www.icanrecoverit.com/mfrec.htm I have no knowledge of who is good at that. |

Sometimes other computers can read a floppy due to drive-to-drive variations. But those will generally not work after a recovery program has tried and failed to make repairs directly to the floppy. |

| Thanks for your reply. Tried posting to my previous thread, but my message never appeared. Re your suggestion: By the time I started posting to this board, the floppy was already corrupted and I couldn't access my Money program due to errors on the computer as a result of uninstalling my son's games, which was why I had to reformat. I couldn't even copy/paste files at that point. If I'd known my backups were corrupted before this whole mess happened, I could have made new ones. As it was it wouldn't have done any good to copy the original floppy. Oh well, experience is the best teacher. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > In microsoft.public.money, Vicki wrote: > > After reformatting & reinstalling, Money 2000 won't > > restore my backups (see previous posts). > If you posted on your old thread, that would have been a lot easier. > > I ran an error > > check on the floppy--it has multiple errors. | Actually, I did such a search and there is software out there for about $40. Am trying to decide if I want to invest that much in something that may not work and that I will probably not use again. I may just give up the old data and start from scratch. Re the other replies. It turned out not to be a problem with my Money version, just a bad floppy. I've learned my lesson about not using the same one over and over. Why continually upgrade software if the one you have works fine? I prefer not to contribute anymore than I have to to the waste stream. Anyway, will be more careful with my backups in the future. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > From your description, I think you're sc****d as well. > You might try the floppies on some other machines-- sometimes you can get > lucky this way, other times it gets worse as the other floppy drives you try > are filthy and further damage the diskettes. > You might do a google search for "data recovery" and check out some of the > services that dabble in this stuff. | From your description, I think you're sc****d as well. You might try the floppies on some other machines--sometimes you can get lucky this way, other times it gets worse as the other floppy drives you try are filthy and further damage the diskettes. You might do a google search for "data recovery" and check out some of the services that dabble in this stuff. You will probably find that your data isn't worth that much. Going forward, I'd recommend you think long and hard about developing a reliable backup scheme. See the FAQ http://www.bollar.org/msmoney/#Q69 for elements of such a scheme. | After reformatting & reinstalling, Money 2000 won't restore my backups (see previous posts). I ran an error check on the floppy--it has multiple errors. Some were automatically corrected but I got 2 mssgs that there is not enough room on the floppy to correct error. Tried to copy the floppy to my hard drive with Win Explorer and in DOS--couldn't do it. Is there anything else I can do to retrieve any of my data? |
