Default Re: Archive and Downloading Bank Transactions

What's strange is that I just downloaded my transactions again after reverted
to a backup file, and this time the only transactions that came through were
those that had not previously been downloaded. I suspsect that the file knew
that all other transactions had been downloaded previously, and thus ignored
them.

Anyway, back to normal. Thanks,

Reed

It depends on the file format that the Bank uses. I can't remember off the
top of my head which way round it is but one format knows how far it has got
and doesn't redownload data that you have already had, the other format
starts from square one.

I agree with Lynn that most people who archive to make the file
smaller or faster will be disappointed, if you want to try again,
consider this:

Upon download of all of those transactions, accept one or more of
the later ones. Then go back to the account list, and right click
where it says you have transactions to read. Choose DeleteStatement.

I have not experienced what you report, but I have not tried Archive
except for using dates that predate my data.

I've never archived and most here will recommend against it:
http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/66.aspx
http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=95

When you archive, those transactions get removed from your Money file,
so it's not surprising that it would attempt to re-download them. So
even if those transactions were previously reconciled, I believe to
Money, it's as if they never existed. What's strange is that it would
do it for one account but not the others. Perhaps some FI servers keep
track of data that has already been downloaded and others rely on Money
to track that?

Default Archive and Downloading Bank Transactions

I recently archived my 2007 data for checking, credit card and other
accounts. When downloading new transactions last night, I received over 200
transactions from my checking account, all of which were previously
reconciled. Did not get the same result from any other accounts I archived.
Results was to revert to a back-up file rather than try to clean up the mess.

Any explanation for why I received these transactions? And how to avoid
them at the next download? I use Money 2007.

Thanks.
