| Some reports like the Transaction by Category reports don't allow you to include the actual investment accounts (only the cash/contributions side). For investments, you should utilize the Income and Expense reports or the various investment or tax reports. | Keep in mind that the actual Sell transaction will be categorized (as defined in Money's Investment categories: Tools - Settings - Categories). So as long as the report you are looking at includes the Investment account where that Sell occured, you should see the "Investment Income : Capital Gains" for that Sell. -Mark "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message news:kgqup3d733m6gqjsg40m2n2nhl3aaqvlib[at]4ax.com... - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Taylor wrote: > > > Related question: > > > I sell an investment using a transfer to the cash account. I sell an investment using a transfer to the cash account. Then, I use a transfer from the cash account to my checking account. Fine. Problem is none of these can be categorized as income, so no income is reported. How do I set up a category for a transfer? Otherwise, I have to input an uncategorized withdrawal from the cash account and input an income-categorized deposit in my checking account. Isn't this what the transfer transaction was supposed to avoid? |

| Normally if an Investment Account can hold cash, you associate it with an Investment Cash Account. The Investment Cash Account is like any other cash account--it uses regular transactions of Income and Expense--but is the default cash account for the Investment Account for buys/sells/dividends, etc. If you had one, you could deposit your income there. You can create one from the Investment Account Settings. (Assuming you are running M04 or earlier or M05 or later Advanced Register and NOT Money Essentials or some Money web variant. Answering questions used to be easier before we had to go to so much effort with disclaimers and qualifiers.) | When I deposit money (that is income) into an investment account, I select as the activity "Other Income" (there does not seem to be any other choice that makes sense. I enter a catagory for the tranaction. But when I look at a "tranactions by catagory" report, the tranaction does not appear. The account is selected, buut it just looks like tranactions from investment accounts do not get in that report. How do I get it into the report? |
