I schedule mine as only once deposits for the same reason.

That is probably the best solution that I have seen. It also provides a
place where you can see if all the rebates you were expecting have arrived.

What I do is create a new cash account called "Refunds & Rebates." Say
I purchase a computer for $1000 with a $200 rebate, I split the
transaction to have $800 for "electronics" and a $200 transfer to the
"Refunds & Rebates" account. When I receive the rebate, then I transfer
the $200 back into my checking account or wherever I have deposited it.
This way I don't have a mysterious negative electronics "expense"
two months after I bought the item.

Create an Income category called "Refunds, Rebates and REimbursements".

I think 99% of us just let it complain about income in an expense category
then tell it we don't care and want to do it that way anyway.

And to the notion that this stuff isn't income. It surely is. It may not be
taxable income IRS-style, but it is absolutely accounting income.

But how to make them propagate to the original category of expense without Money
complaining of assigning expense category to a deposit ?

But if you categorize these items as EXPENSE, they would incorrectly inflate
the dollar amount of expense instead of decreasing it which they in fact are
meant to do.

There needs to be a way to apply these items against the respective expense
amounts without them being counted as income.

Totally your choice.

When I can direct it to a specific purchase I categorize it as an expense
with the category of what I was purchasing. For example my home and auto
insurance is from a mutual company so the "re-imbursement" I receive at the
end of the year is categorized as insurance/auto (or home) and deducts from
what I paid.

When I got a rebate on the computer or software I categorize it under the
computer expenses category that I had set up.

If I can not figure out where the rebate came from it ends up either
randomly under some expense category or as misc expense.

I look at them as lowering the expense so they category should be expense to
get the item to what I actually paid.

Default How to categorize Refunds, Rebates and Reimbursements ?

I am using Money 2007 Deluxe (Not Plus) . I am wondering as to how to
categorize Non-Income-Tax Refunds, Rebates and Reimbursements because these
items are neither expense nor income, but each available category in Money is
either Expense or Income.

Kindly advise

Thanks
