| I posted a message several hours ago that has not appeared. Thanks for all the advice I got. For some reason everything is fine now. When I opened Money 04 today everything from 2007 was there. Last night the archived portion was converted. I won't question how or why the 07 data jumped into Money 2004 (the archive file is still an archive and not in with the 07) but I sure am glad. It seems like recopying the backup into the desk top from the CD fixed whatever was wrong. Never give up!! | I FIXED IT!!! Or just pushed enough buttons to wear it out and submit. I don't know what I did. When I found I could open my archive I knew I had to keep trying. So, I took the CD (I had copied my money2001 file on it to try on the notebook) and moved it back to my desk top. Then somehow it opened. The "original" application still gives me the error message from Microsoft, but the "other" one says "do you want to open an existing file" and opens right up. Initially it asked if I wanted the file restored and I said yes. It is odd that the another "money" s starts with 08 and has no history. I can't figure this one out--it wouldn't incorporate any of my old stuff. Maybe I'll start anew with 2008 on this one. I went ahead and printed out everything for 07 just in case it bombed again. Anyone have any idea WHY it worked? Thanks for listening. So the Archive file will only contain information that was in the file a the time of archive. There is no easy way to re-integrate the information, and for most people, archiving is not a good idea. In your case, the implication is that the Archive file was created while you were using Money 2004 or older. There is an automatic backup made during conversion of a Money file by and to a newer version. File File Ext Version *.m16 2007 *.m15 2006 *.m14 2005 *.m12 2004 *.m11 2003 *.m10 2002 *.mn9 2001 *.mn8 2000 *.mn7 99 *.mn6 98 *.mn5 97 Money 2004 could not make sense of a *.m14 file, even if the file were copied to a *.mny name. The error indication may be that there is a password problem, even tho it is a version problem. On the other hand, Money 2005 could read a *.m14 or read and convert a *.m12 file. |

The Money 2008 files will not be readable by any older version of Money. You may ultimately have to export your data from the old versions into QIF files, then import them into the version of Money that you want to use. Search older postings on this group for advice on how to do this to maintain the maximum amount of data. -- Steve B. New Life Home Improvement |

| is there ANY MVP out there that can chime in here to tell me what is going on? Last night I went to my documents. I opened the 06 archive. Lo and behold money 2004 went to work and got all the 06 info into Money 2004. But I still cannot get to my 07 information. Now I have a Money, Money 1, and Money 2. Two of these have no data, one has my archived data. It would be worth it to go buy money 08 just to get to a technician but I have a feeling they couldn't help either. - quote - > I called Microsoft and was ready to pay for help but the operator would not > put me through to a technician because it was prior to Money 2006. | I am unsure as to how to answer the question "run as administrator". I called Microsoft and was ready to pay for help but the operator would not put me through to a technician because it was prior to Money 2006. She said I could buy Money 2008 and then they could see what was wrong. The computer company also tried but could not fix it. So--I tried installing it on my notebook computer and it went just fine and dandy. Then I wondered if I could copy the backup file on the desk top and put it on the notebook--which I did. But it won't import into the notebook application because isn't in the correct platform "qif" or something like that. Every time I tried to import it another back up was made onto my hard drive into my documents. So then i copied that and put it back in my desk top and voila--Money 2004 opened. But I still can't get my 07 data into it. I did see the restore button but don't know what to do next. I'll try to research here and find out. But I could have just as easly redone my whole 07 checkbook with a pencil and paper with the time I've spent trying to figure this out. I look forward to anyone who thinks they can help. - quote - > Run as administrator? |

| My problem will probably require direct contact with Microsoft--I was using Money 2001 which has worked fine since its inception. Another error message came up that I needed components of IE 5 and needed to install those. I uninstalled Money 2001 and installed Money 2004. The next error said I needed components of IE 6. I downloaded the windows update and am now running IE 7 (after the error message) and still nothing. I booted in safe mode--same thing. Anyone have any idea?? | A few days ago, Money quit loading when I turned on the computer, and the icon disappeared from the taskbar. Today I tried to open the application and got the error box from Microsoft--we are sorry we encountered a problem and must close, etc. I had a Money 2004 disc I had never used so reinstalled with this. I get the same message. It tries to open--plays the music for about l0 seconds--and then the error message comes up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled more than once. Can someone please help? |
