Yes, I have two external harddrives and I have made a copy on both. I
think I have learned NOT to trust the backups, but to make actual
copies of the mny file itself every week or so.. If the Money File is
corrupt, then the backup it makes can be corrupt too. So from now,
I'll do both. Thanks again.

I am very pleased to hear it. I'll bet that you have already copied
your working files to other media such as a USB flash drive. Maybe
others will be inspired to do so also.

YEAH! I think it is fixed. I was able to run the Repair from the CMD
prompt like you suggested. The password worked from there. Also, after
opening up my new file, I can click on Repair and it works as normal.
So I think it is all good now. Thanks for your help.

But you can just save the file and exit Money....

I don't know. You might try to remove the password for convenience.

Also, you could try level 1 repair on the file.

Try opening a command prompt.

cd "\Program Files\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles"
(assuming you are using the default location)

Then run
salv.exe

It is possible that will be better, tho more likely it will work the
same as the one you downloaded.

BTW-My MNY file opens with the password, it just won't work with the
Repair.

Update:.... I DID find the tmp file when I thought of going to the Run
command and doing the %tmp%. I renamed it to .mny and it opens, BUT it
won't repair and I know that something is still wrong with the file
because everytime I click on Repair, the program closes. And then I
downloaded the repair file you told me to use and when I go to repair
it from there, it tells me the password is wrong, but it is the
correct password. SO...now my NEW problem is how to get this mny file
to repair. So, what's the next step? And thanks for your help. Your
advice has gotten me this far.

I cannot find the tmp file anywhere. I have searched *.tmp and
mfb369.tmp and unhide all system and program files. The only place it
shows up is in the title bar of Money Plus when it opens. And when I
"find target" from the Money Plus icon it opens from in the Start
Menu, it goes to msmoney.exe. I tried renaming the mbf369.mbf file
to .mny and repairing IT, but the repair tells me it can't repair
because it is not a .mny file. The information is all there, but I
have to figure out how to get it into a mny file.

My only other thought is take out a MS ticket and see if I send THEM
the backup file if they can restore it to a money file. Because
everytime I try to restore IT, it just shuts down Money

Am I missing something I should have tried?

If you can find that *.tmp file of an appropriate size, you could
rename that to *.mny, and try to repair that.

When you restore, I would browse to your documents folder and choose
a new name for the file. Then as soon as you finish the restore,
exit Money. That might give you that *.mny to work with.

Update: I think the Repairs did SOMETHING even if Money was shutting
down on me because the next time I tried to open my latest backup, it
actually opened when I clicked on Money Plus in the Start Menu. I
couldn't believe it! I was really thanking you big time when I saw
that the right file.....I had tried to open that file at least 10
times.

However, now I have the backup opened in Money Plus, but there is
no .mny file anywhere on my computer. I closed Money Plus and then
repopened and it still brought the backup into Money Plus. The name of
the money file in the upper left is mbf269.tmp. I wanted to go ahead
and find the .mny file, make MANY copies of it and then try to see
what the Repair did. But Money Plus is opening up the backup, but it
doesn't seem to be turning it into a .mny file. I did a Backup with a
few different names, I did a search on my computer for any files
with .mny, but there is not a file like that since 10/7/07. Or how do
I make the backup file in Money Plus be my main Money File .mny?

Ok, when I try either the Quick Repair File or the Standard Repair
File, Microsoft Plus just shuts down too. As soon as I click on either
one, about a second later, the program shuts down on me so I am unable
to use the repair file.

Is there one I can download and run from my computer for Money Plus?

Make extra copies in case you want to undo something.
You could open Money to a file that opens. Then click
File-> RepairMoneyFile-> StandardFileRepair level 2 specify the *.mny
that you want to repair, and a new name for the repaired file.

You can also get info from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902466

Good luck.

Default My laptop won't boot and my Money 08 backups won't open--please help!

My laptop suddenly has an error about unmountable boot up disk and my
2008 Money files are on it. I do back up daily onto another computer,
but none of the 8 backups will open. Everytime I click on them, I can
go as far as the login screen in Money, then Money just SHUTS down
completely. I can open up an older Money File back from September, but
none of my current backups will open.

The backups shut down Money2008 from TWO different computers, so I
don't think it is the Money installation itself. Could all of the
backups be corrupt?

Is there ANYTHING I can try??? All suggestions welcome... I am
desperate here because there are over 1500 transactions that I would
have to accept between September and now, not to mention the current
Bill Pay information that I have lost.

Thanks in Advance.
