| Dianne, When you click "Balance this account" all transactions that have the "Check" mark and the ones without will be listed to be reconciled. Or you can right click on the transaction and change it to unreconciled. Also, when you are in the balance account area, all transactions with "E" will become "Check" marks. cindy "Dianne C" <DianneC[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1108DEBA-BCDE-4D99-B9F3-85C70A7133B6[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Cindy, > Thank you for replying. | Cindy, Thank you for replying. I just came back to check my original question; I must have forgotten to check 'Notify me of replies' the first time. ![]() I will be hitting Money, again, in the next day or so and will see if I can utilize your suggestions. Just one question, before I do. You wrote that the check mark meant that a reconciliation was never finished. If I am doing a new balance (if that's even possible), how do I handle the check marks? But, let me see if I can answer a couple of the questions you'd asked - well, I can probably sum it all up very neatly. The last time I'dbalanced was 11-05. At that time, I had to accept an adjustment, and I know, now, that that was most likely because of having that setting incorrect and confusing the devil out of me. Anyway - this account has never 'truly' balanced without cartwheels, if that makes sense. The checking account was around for several years before we got MS Money. | "Check mark" is when you check the transaction to be reconciled but have never finished reconciling that statement "E" means that the transacation was electronicaly downloaded not cleared "C' means cleared "R" is reconciled If you chose not to have the transactions accepted you have to manually accept the transaction. If you would delete the adjustment would it get you closer to your actual balance. (figure this on paper-don't delete it just yet) If you check your starting balance-is it Zero? Have you balanced all the way to 11/2007? You could try balancing everything together with your last statement. Everything before 10/2007would be checked and anything on the last statement. When you are done, does that take care of the amount off? Let me know "Dianne C" <DianneC[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news ECAE4D6-B7B2-4F02-B399-21E3EE8BFF78[at]microsoft.com...- quote - > M2004 > I have a hump to get over. | M2004 I have a hump to get over. After reading the boards, here, I discovered that one of my settings in M2004 was evil. ;-) I had it set to 'accept all transactions' so that, when downloaded, the transactions showed as an 'E' (I think - darn, I'm confused). So. I tried to get the account balanced. The marks that I had in that column were: C, E, R, and a check mark. I tried to balance from there. I 'marked as cleared' anything that appeared on my bank statement but had not been downloaded to my account. The amount by which I was away from zero varied incredibly. When I finally decided that I'd entered my info, M2004 told me that I was off by THOUSANDS of dollars (balancing from 11-2005). So, I accepted an adjustment. THEN it told me that my starting balance was off and I accepted an adjustment on that with the thought being that, it'll look ugly, but, I'll be up-to-date. Guess what? My M2004 balance is now hundreds and hundreds of dollars off -- still. Suggestions? I have another (older) file that I can open and re-do all of the inputting, but, my question is: As I am balancing my account, what icon should be in the 'C' column? AND: I did change my settings so that the downloaded transactions do NOT mark as reconciled, after reading the boards & realizing my error. Are there any other settings that I should pay close attention to? ** AND ** Since I have changed the download instructions to NOT automatically accept transactions, what letters should be on my 'C' column during balancing? Sorry if my post seems all over the place. I put this away for the night and came back to it this morning and am just as befuddled as before. Thanks, Dianne -- ~Dianne A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any invention in human history - with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila. ~unknown |
