| Yes even though you do not use Merrill Lynch you correctly stated the problem. I like idea #2 the best. But it is alot of extra work. It is a shame that Merrill can't work something out. I know that other financials like Charles Schwab, UBS among others do not have this situation. They treat the money account as cash. As for #3 I believe that the download will change the value from $0 to $1. Also it will try to add the money account to my positions if it does not match what I have. But I will try and get back here. Thanks. Marc "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, md wrote: > > Merrill Lynch does not treat money funds as cash. I guess that the problem is that position data for the MMF is downloaded, and that Money, seeing a mismatch, offers to do an AddShares or RemoveShares to compensate. ("The positions reported on the 1/18/2008 statement don't match those in your Money account. Do you want Money to update your account to match the statement? (o)Yes... ( )No...) If that is the case, one way to handle this would be to change the radio button to say that you will handle the mismatch. Get in the habit of doing that every time you process those statements. If you forget some time, delete/void the generated AddShares or RemoveShares transaction. Unfortunately there is not a selection to change the default selection of the radio button. Another way would be to accept the AddShares and RemoveShares to be added, but to change them manually into Buy and Sell transactions. This seems like more work. Another way that comes to mind would be to change that MMF in Money to "Other", remove the symbol, and to set the quote value to $0.00. Then holding the position would not change the account value. I don't know if Money might pick up the $1 price from the download or not. If that happened, that would not work. Plus you would have a bunch of AddShares and RemoveShares cluttering the register. This would be my least-favorite idea for a workaround, but maybe somebody would want to experiment with it. |

| Merrill Lynch does not treat money funds as cash. So when I download the statement the amount of money in my money funds and my cash positions actually show I have more than I do. For example, when I get a dividend the cash position is tracked (which I want) and I receive the money. When Merrill Lynch gets the money it goes into a money fund. Money does not record a buy of the money fund. So my cash stays the same while my money fund goes up. How should I handle this? |
