I think that if you start balancing fresh, Money will recalculate.
That number is the signed sum of the reconciled transactions plus
the opening balance for the account. If Money has put compensating
transactions in the past, you might want to consider deleting or
voiding those if you are trying to get things right and you think
there are not missing transactions that need to be compensated for.

Keep an extra copy/backup of your file in case you want to undo
something.

If you have determined the numbers are right, and want to declare an
account balanced, you can mark all entries balanced. Select to show
only unreconciled transactions. Sort by date, and go to the oldest
transaction. Hold down Cntl+Shift+M and let auto-repeat work thru
the transactions until none are left showing. Then balance making
the starting and ending balance match the known balance. Choose the
balance date to be the day after your last transaction. This is
not the normal procedure. It starts you with an amnesty for former
balancing.

Then resume normal balancing in the future.

But I DID overwrite it. My question is, how do I get back to what
Money had calculated on a specific date so that I can properly balance
the account?

Money enters that number itself. Just don't over-write it.

Default Beginning Balance does not match calculated

I went against my own rule, after creating this problem for myself
once before, and changed the beginning balance that Money came up with
when trying to balance my account. Now I am repeatedly getting the
message that the beginning balance I entered does not match the
beginning balance that Money calculated.

How do I find out what the balance is that Money calculated so I can
re-enter that number?
