| Having the same problem with Money 2007 on Vista. I have it automatically backing up the file on each power down and compressing it. The strange thing is that I can exit Money and verify the file is still there (even hours later). I'll go to use it a day or few days later and it's been corrupted. Makes me wonder if Money's update feature running in the backgound is at fault, or some other file process (Defrag, etc). I've always been able to restore it from the most recent backup, but I'm starting to think Quicken... My file is 20MB large, maybe they have a size problem? My money file which is in My Documents folder is just gone. I am using Microsoft XP Home Edition however and the 'My Documents' folder is not on my C drive. I moved mine to a secondary hard drive. I am probably reaching but I am wondering if this issue has anything to do with the "Access Your Data From Any Computer" feature. I have noticed numerous times that the money program will not shut down completely if this feature is enabled. I have just today decided to disable this feature. I am hoping this will make both issues go away. Dustin |

| Hi I've experienced my money file being deleted over the last 3 months or so. Everything is okay for say a couple of weeks, then it suddenly disappears once or twice and is hen okay for another couple of weeks. I use Ms money 2005 on Vista. Fortunately I make backups every day for the previous 3 weeks, so can always restore. This disappearance does not occur on any other file on my system. I can find nothing in Event Viewer to account for this. Because I have lots of space, I save the last 15 backups. In backup setup I have scheduled backups set to weekly and directed to a network drive, keeping the last 3 copies. Neither of those methods compress the file. In addtion, my general computer backup routine backs up the main file (and the backups, of course) to a network drive. The difference is the computer backup is a copy of the original file in MNY format, not a Money 'backup' format. If you don't have a network drive, you can direct it to a CD or DVD writer. I think Money will prompt you for a disk, but I'm not sure. If you set it to 'ask me before backing up' it definitely will prompt you before doing anything. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL |

| You should be aware that if your ???.mny file becomes corrupt (though you may not immediately know it) and you make a backup on exit - then that backup will itself be corrupt. This is why it is essential to have more than 1 backup (don't forever just overwrite the same one). There are various backup strategies but always remember that the older the backup you may be obliged to use, the greater the amount of data you must be prepared re-entered. I use 6 backups named: 1 Monday.mbf, 2 Tuesday.mbf etc (all in the same folder) and I browse to 'today', whatever that is, on the way out. Because I don't open Money everyday it works out that there will usually be a backup that is a couple of weeks old - and hence probably predates any Microsoft download that creates its own problem; often I can use a backup that is only a couple of days old and then I have relatively little data to re-enter. teabag "Gatorman98" <Gatorman98[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E848F951-EFB8-4019-A03E-2C8C48D979A3[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Has anyone heard anything new about this? | Has anyone heard anything new about this? This has now happened twice to me and I had to go in and pull it back from my carbonite back-up each time. I could not even use the money back-up file as it says it is corrupt every time I try to open it. This is a pretty serios issue! FWIW I am running XP with UK Money2004 (MS seem to have abandoned producing UK versions after 2005) This problem seems to have appeared in the last couple of weeks for no apparent reason to Money installations that have been stable for months if not years. Since it is not unique to a particular user/OS/version of Money then I am assuming it is something MS have done until proven otherwise - much like the disablement of the passport link recently. | Yes, It is in "my documents" folder which I have moved to a different hard drive. The strange thing is that it has been there working just fine for 4 or 5 months. This behavior just all of a sudden started about two weeks ago. If you look around your computer, you will probably find a temp file> Luckily Vista keeps several "shadow" copies of the file so its easy to recover but I would like to know what's causing this. with the appropriate time and date. Renaming that to *.mny and opening with Money is said to work by some posters. You might want to contact Microsoft support. |
