| Thanks for help. I tried the suggestion however to no avail. I could not locate the transaction that was preventing the change of investment type and assume there is a bug. I wound up creating a new investment with the correct type, adding a fictional amount of shares greater than the original investment balance, transfering each transaction in the original to the new investment, and then deleting the fictional number of shares. Then in order to use the correct symbol, I deleted the original investment and renamed the new one to the old investment name. It worked. The result due to the length of time, months, emphasizes the poor level of support from MS unless you pay and the great help from yourself and other members of the community. If you already have an investment of type X, start entering a transaction, and select the name in the Investment list. Then see what is available in the drop-down Activity list. Then just Cancel that transaction. |

I purchased Money Plus Premier 2008, and the account details screen does I received a message that the change could not be made due to the nature of some of the investment transactions. I could not locate anything in help that indicated which transactions were not supported when changing investment type. The transactions used are buy, transfer in and out, and dividends. Does anyone know what transactions are not valid when changing investment type? |

This will work if you are not downloading transactions from your broker. If you do so and have a problem with this, check back. Changing Stock to Mutual Fund It is not trivial, but not as hard as it first appears. A few minutes should do it. In the details, remove the existing symbol, and rename the existing "stock" to something you will never use. Let's suppose you choose zzzz. Create a new Fund with the correct name and symbol. Go back to investment zzzz and choose InvestmentActivities. Enter a fake new Buy dated before all other transactions with quantity more than the total of other "stock" transactions. Change each non-fake transaction to the fund using the drop-down list. Start with the oldest transaction. Keep going until there are no more zzzz transactions remaining except the fake transaction. Delete the fake Buy transaction. At that point you can "delete" zzzz. |

| I am using Money 2006 Premier. I incorrectly classified a sock as a mutual fund and now can't change the investment type. The details screen does not have an appropriate check box. I deleted all transactions with the hope that I could then delete the investment and reenter it with the correct type. However Money will not allow me to delete the investment insisting there are open transactions even though they have been deleted. Can anyone help advising me how to change the investment type. A friend said something about exporting and reimporting a QIF file. |
