Budget amounts for scheduled bills created and simply deleted from the bills screen, or entered as transactions, resulting in the bill being deleted, cannot be revised. Budget amounts for scheduled bills can be revised by simply revising the bills. However, that revises retroactive budget amounts, even if past transactions complied with the then-scheduled bill. That skews your budget vs actual. Nothing you can do changes either behavior. Once you've deleted a bill, it's untouchable. However, you can work around it. The first workaround to fix a broken budget is ugly. It involves creating a new, similarly-named category, adding it to the budget, moving all past transactions to it, then deleting the old category. If you search google groups you'll find references to that method. 'Nuke the Bills' has a similar effect (and other benefits) but is drastic and has other side effects. I've used it a few times but don't recommend it for casual use. The other workaround is the better approach but you have to do it before deleting the bill. If I have a scheduled bill that affects my budget, and future amounts of that bill will change (e.g., my cable TV just went up) I put a future stop on the bill to permit 2 more occurences. I edit those future occurences individually to $0, post them to the register, and delete the transactions.I also create a new bill for the new amount, starting with the first dated $0 amount. That preserves the past budget, while the future budget reflects the new amount. The reason I don't put a future stop date to permit only one more occurence is, if you do, you can't revise individual occurences. Attempts to revise the remaining occurence has a retroactive effect, which you're trying to avoid. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL |

| Using Money Plus Deluxe Version 17.0.120.727. When entering a recurring transaction into Bills and Deposits, the amounts entered are automatically transferred to the Budget. However, once an entry has been entered into the Register, and a change in the amount in the series is desired, I have not been able to determine how the amount initially transferred to the Budget can be changed. Even if the transaction is deleted, the amount that initially went into the Budget remains. Please advise how the amount shown in the Budget can be changed to reflect the new amount. |
