Default Re: Money 2006 payee matching

Thanks for the info received from both Cal and Chris. This technique is
still laborous but better than the other method I was using.

Other than discussing it with your bank's tech support staff to plead
with them to fix their download format, I think not. That's probably a
waste of breath.

You need to go to "Payee Rules Manager" on the payees page and add
"Draft Withdrawal" to the list of Excluded Payee Names. That will make
the payee blank on download.

If you turned on "Use Autocomplete" in Global Account Settings, typing
the first few letters of the name from the memo into the payee field
will fill in the payee and most recent category. Some will advise that
doing so means that downloading is a waste of time, but the date and
amount are accurate and already filled in. Typing a couple of letters
is easier than initiating the entire transaction as new.

You won't get the Payee filled in for you from that bank, but you
can make it better so at least Money won't be pre-filling in the
same Payee that you used for your last Draft Withdrawal.

Go to
Banking-> AccountTools-> Categories&Payees-> GoToPayeeRulesManager.
Excluded Payee Names identifies words and phrases that should be
ignored from the payee field (e.g., check, deposit). Add
"Draft Withdrawal".

While you are at it, it is usually a good idea to select
Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServices-> ReplacePayeeNames....

You may want to set
Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServices-> AddADescriptionToTheMemoField

Default Money 2006 payee matching

How do I get payee matching to work when all payees are listed as "Draft
Withdrawal"? When money downloads my bank transactions, the identifying
information on the transaction is entered into the MEMO field. I have used
filtering to correct these transactions in the past, but this is just too
laborous. Is there an easy way to tackle this issue?

Thanks in advance -- PW
